Hannity is confronted to give up the Saddam - WMD meme

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,207446,00.html

<snip>

TED LEWIS, GLOBAL EXCHANGE: And Sean, you know, I think that it's important that you stop trying to tell Americans that there were weapons of mass destruction, this sort of thing, and level with us about what's really going on.

HANNITY: Wait a minute Ted. Ted, there were 500 canisters, 500 of them that we found there and you may want to put your liberal head in the sand and ignore it because you've got a political agenda that doesn't allow you to see the truth, but I don't live my life in such a way.

You have played, and people on your side, have played politics with this war from the beginning. You call our president a liar every day and then when confronted with evidence you ignore it because your agenda and your ambition is more important. I don't live my life that way.

10. Pre-Gulf War Stocks
That had become so degraded that they would only be a threat if you stood in a small room, emptied the contents on the floor and dance around the residue naked.

14. Is that the stuff that Santorum was trying to trumpet?
As if it was what we were looking for instead of the things that Bush and Powell talked about like yellow cake uranium, as if Saddam was THIS close to putting a bomb together? But no, we find stuff that was there before the first Gulf War instead. Yeah, sure Sean, that's what Bush was talking about lo those many months ago.

Officials: U.S. didn’t find WMDs, despite claims

NBC News and news services
Updated: 7:04 p.m. PT June 22, 2006

WASHINGTON - Senior U.S. intelligence officials said Thursday they have no evidence that Iraq produced chemical weapons after the 1991 Gulf War, despite recent reports from media outlets and Republican lawmakers.

Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and Rep. Peter Hoekstra of Michigan on Wednesday pointed to a newly declassified report that says coalition forces have found 500 munitions in Iraq that contained degraded sarin or mustard nerve agents.

They cited the report in an attempt to counter criticism by Democrats who say the decision to go to war was a mistake.

But defense officials said Thursday that the weapons were not considered likely to be dangerous because of their age, which they determined to be pre-1991.

Pentagon officials told NBC News that the munitions are the same kind of ordnance the U.S. military has been gathering in Iraq for the past several years, and "not the WMD we were looking for when we went in this time."

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the issue.

"We were able to determine that is, in fact, degraded and ... is consistent with what we would expect from finding a munition that was dated back to pre-Gulf War," an intelligence official told NBC. "However, even in the degraded state, our assessment is that they could pose an up-to-lethal hazard if used in attacks against coalition forces."

15. I figured it was something like that.
The document was fairly vague that Hannity is using.

7. Sort of a weak confrontation.

Hannity trots out his 500 canisters line and then Colmes goes into a ramble about how those canisters weren't the WMDs we went to war over. That's a very lame way of saying there were no WMDs. In fact, it tacitly implies that there were other WMDs that we DID go to war over. What's needed is for people to keep saying "there were no WMDs. None. Nary a one. Not even a little one, unless you consider the odd can of Raid and Clorox bleach found under the kitchen sinks in some houses to be WMDs. There haven't been WMDs in Iraq since 1992, they had no capability of making them, and it's unlikely they ever would. The whole pretext for the war was a total crock of shit."

Hannity will feel as if he's 'proved' there were WMDs in Iraq once again.

13. More importantly: his lemming-like fans will keep believing the lie.
A couple of weeks ago a Harris poll showed that 50% of Americans believe that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction when we invaded (up from 36 percent in February 2005).

Sickening, isn't it?

8. COLMES:did the comeback to Hannity

You have played, and people on your side, have played politics with this war from the beginning. You call our president a liar every day and then when confronted with evidence you ignore it because your agenda and your ambition is more important. I don't live my life that way.

COLMES: I don't want to get off topic. This is about Cindy Sheehan, but those WMDs the administration itself hasn't jumped on that and further more, our own state department and pentagon have said this is not the reason why we went to war. These are not the weapons, why we went to war.

16. "I don't live my life... " must be some sort of code to some group
Like when W started talking about Dred Scott at one of the debates. Most people just thought it was bizarre but it was really a wink and a nod to the "prolife" crowd-Dred Scott is code for abortion and abortion issues.

I have to assume that Hannity is repeating that phrase for a reason. Maybe it is the "Don't tell me what to drive (no one is) or what to eat (no one is) or where I can smoke" crowd. I dunno.
