Democrats Campaign For A New America (Go get Em!)
Democrats Campaign For A New America

Aug. 4 - KGO - Congress usually takes a vacation in August. But not this month, not for Democrats. Instead they are fanning out across the country with a campaign called New Direction for America. It got its launch in San Francisco today with minority leader Nancy Pelosi.

Democrats see the polls, showing many Americans unhappy with the nation's direction. So they're taking inspiration from the Republicans, from the "Contract with America" a dozen years ago, which laid out 10 concrete proposals the GOP would act on if they won. They did win, and now Democrats have their own to-do list.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-House Minority Leader: "We must own the month of August."

Three months from the election, Nancy Pelosi, and other Democrats in the Bay Area's congressional delegation are trying to start what they call a drumbeat for change.

Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland: "I've never seen Democrats as united since I've been in Congress as we are now."
