Both sides are wrong in the Israel/Arab conflict. They're both doing inhuman things, and plenty.

We really all ought to take to heart that all DUers believe in, more or less, the same concept of justice and that we all want peace. Most of the commentary regarding this issue here at DU doesn't excuse the behavior of one side- it is just a condemnation of the behavior of the other. And there's dumptrucks' worth of condemnation to go around.

So let's all just chill out. The mods are doing their best to keep things to a low boil. Have a drink, smoke a bowl, pet your dog or cat (or bird or rabbit or turtle, not meaning to offend anyone!), have sex with your wife or husband, take your kids to the park, play Parcheesi. Find some good news and post it. But relax. No more name-calling.

We're all too busy arguing about Israel and the Arabs and not having NEARLY enough sex. Hell, I bet sexual repression is one of the leading factors in most world conflicts! Think about it: places with lax sexual norms are usually the happiest places on earth (see: Denmark), and haven't invaded/bombed/poked anyone in the eye with a stick in quite some time; while sexually repressed, puritanical countries (USA! USA! USA!, Iran, China, most of Africa) don't seem to be getting along so great.

If you lurk Free Republic, you'll find that the issues that generate the most heat are Creation/Evolution, Catholic/Protestant (and Calvinist/Arminian) feuding and Pro/anti "Fair Tax".

At least most of the things DUers insult one another about - the Middle East conflict and gun control being the obvious ones - are important (well, apart from the atheist/Christian flame wars in R&T).

I agree. There is no basis for assuming, based on one's position, that the position means anyone wants anything OTHER than peace in the middle east. EVERYONE wants peace; NOBODY wants to see innocent people killed; EVERYBODY cares; NOBODY should make automatic judgments about who cares "more" and who cares "less."

I think we should take that as a given, and let that assumption underlie the discussions.
