Yesterday roads buckled but today windshields....
shattered because it is so hot!!!!

I posted, yesterday, saying the local news station was talking about the road buckling because of the heat. A couple of you said that was normal in other areas of the country. I was fine with that but today they say they will cover car windshields breaking because of the heat. This is just so surreal to me. They showed a man's car and his windshield was just shattered into tiny little pieces. It was amazing. I wonder what tomorrow will hold.

2. One way to help prevent a car windshield from breaking is to
open your window just a little to let the heat escape.

3. Where did the fish die because of the heat?
New Jersey?

There is relief on the way, Cleveland yesterday was 96 - today 85 and rain! Back to the gray skys that are the norm in Cleveland

9. Yep, they showed the fish yesterday as well.
It was so sad to see so many fish just floating there on top of the water. It was in New Jersey and it made me very sad.

11. Fish die in Lake Erie all the time - don't need heat
Every time I find my way up to the lake (only 3 miles), it just blows my mind, all the dead fish in a lake this size.
And they say it is so much cleaner than it used to be. I sure the hell wouldn't swim in it.

4. People out here in the desert know to keep their windows
cracked. On the super hot days, it can make the difference between a shattered windshield and one with a small crack, at most.

We also learn REALLY FAST not to keep anything carbonated or pressurized in our cars.

5. It doesn't seem that unusually hot to me, here in Raleigh anyway.
Upper 90's are not that unheard of, or even low 100's this time of year. How hot is it there, anyway?

10. lectrobyte, I am down the road from you.
I am in Greensboro so we are not too far away. This is the third day in a row they said it was x degrees but for the past three days they say it has felt like it is between 105-115 degrees.

7. In Cleveland they had to close a bridge early in week
And in Cleveland, temperatures climbed so high yesterday that city officials were forced to close a bridge over the Cuyahoga River because extreme heat was causing the steel on the bridge to expand, dislodging some of the parts.
