How to end the slaughter in Lebanon and Iraq, AND all other problems.
Karl Rove and the boys are laughing their asses off that we are not full-time working to retake Congress. Instead here we are battling each other over this Israeli action green-lighted, funded and armed by whom?

Karl and the boys of course.

There is no accident in the fact that this attack is taking place just before the election. It is a deliberate distraction and it is working. Sickeningly, these assholes are happy to slaughter (or authorize and support it) as an election year distraction.

Surely someone is going to tell me now that Hezbollah chose the timing with their kidnapping of the two soldiers. But, to those people Ill ask, WHY THIS ATTACK? Why was this particular attack suddenly declared an "act of war" when previous attacks have been met with far more measured response? I believe it is a timing issue. The attacks are regular. So, you can pretty much pick the attack that fits a date that works for you. (and for the record, fuck Hezbolllah for giving them the casus beli with their indiscriminate violence!)

Karl Rove is loving this. He is loving our division. He is loving the fact that with less than 100 days until the mid-terms, we are not fully mobilized (or even a little organized ) to fight the November battle.

Of course the violence is something that should not be ignored.

But, the bottom line is that the only way to make ALL of this shit stop is by throwing the repug fucks out of office and using our democratically controlled congress to investigate and punish these criminals. If we do not win, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict will continue to worsen with Repug support, the war in Iraq will continue and be handed to the next guy to deal with, the poor will keep being fucked by the rich, the gap between those groups will continue to grow and the new Congress WILL pass the new bill giving Bush the legal authorization to declare anyone eligible for indefinite detention and torture, you, me your gramma, everyone.

We have to focus on the BIG picture. Congressional control. Otherwise all of our bitching is pointless and will change absolutely nothing.

(Prediction, this thread drops like a rock, like a related post I put up yesterday. Of course i did put Lebanon on the subject line. I figured people may actually read it then. We'll see.)

2. Israel invaded Lebanon to influence elections in the USA?
In which direction?

3. To show that democrats don't have a plan, as usual.
GOP will once again show us that the world is a dangerous place, and those wimpy dem's won't fire a shot in self-defense. That is Israel's right is it not, as put forth by the MSM?

Rove will milk this for all it's worth...

4. Read carefully. Likud and the Repugs are allies. They work together

when making these decisions. I have always pretty much assumed that a large Israeli action like this would not be taken without the permission of Washington. We pay the bills and supply the arms. Only under the most extreme of circumstances would they likely cross the funders and armers of their war machine.

Israel has its own motives, they just dovetail with those of the repugs. I did not say they invaded soley to influence the elections. That was the Bushco side of the equation.

I believe that as reported here in another thread, the administration gove the go ahead for this opperation as long as two month ago.

Have you a counter belief you'd like to explore? Do you think the above analysis is just plain wrong?

5. Read carefully?

You said of the Lebanon invasion: "There is no accident in the fact that this attack is taking place just before the election. It is a deliberate distraction" {from the 2006 elections in the USA}.

Now you're saying "I did not say they invaded soley to influence the elections."

I said, in so many words, that the invasion will not help republicans this November.
You said, in so many words, it will.

I disagree with you.

edit: To avoid bumping this thread and distracting from the Congressional election issue, I'm replying to your post #8 here. I hope you're reading carefully.

You said: "I do care if people ignore the main point about focus and getting Congress back over their other objections."
Your thread title is: "How to end the slaughter in Lebanon and Iraq, AND all other problems."

My stance is that the invasion of Lebanon will not help republicans in November.

8. My Statement from the OP and my clarification stands.
Disagree if you want.

But, let me ask you this, do you disagree with all of the rest of the post? The parts about us stopping this and many other issue if we retake congress?

This is not an I/P thread. I really do not care if people do not agrewe with my assesment of the current situation. I do care if people ignore the main point about focus and getting Congress back over their other objections.

7. K&R!
I don't believe that the Dems will retake congress this fall, but I will vote to make it so. The sad thing is that it isn't just the Republicans who fund, support, and enable the Likud, it is the Democrats, too. I agree with your analysis; the Israelis have planned this for a long time. Hezbollah just blindly, ignorantly, gave them the pretext to launch what both the Likud and the Bush Dictatorship had pre-approved.

I have no love for Hezbollah, but the Israeli government is in bed with the Bush Dictatorship and the sooner we all come to grips with that, the better for us, Israel, and the rest of the Mideast and world...

9. Doesn't seem to be a lot of division among 'democrats' in congress
Unfortunately.

Frankly, I wish there were more who are not afraid to suggest that Israel is sometimes wrong, for fear of the wrath of the AIPAC crowd and hangers on.

11. they should not laugh too hard. This WAR brings the negatives back home.
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 09:29 AM by oc2002
People who may have been content to support Israel before are now asking why?

Voters are getting upset at the carnage and want to know why?

Tax payers are wondering why their money is being pissed away in three wars in the Middle East, when the invasion of Iraq was suppose to bring peace and democracy once Sadam was gone.

The criminals in the WH may be laughing now(mostly because they ignore reality), but they may be crying later.

15. I agree with you.
This post should not become another "taking sides" thread. It isn't about that issue, which could be debated without consensus until the dust from "the big one" buried the bones of the dead.

We do need to focus. Nothing will change in this country, nor in the rest of the world, as long as this regime has unfettered control.

"If we do not win, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict will continue to worsen with Repug support, the war in Iraq will continue and be handed to the next guy to deal with, the poor will keep being fucked by the rich, the gap between those groups will continue to grow and the new Congress WILL pass the new bill giving Bush the legal authorization to declare anyone eligible for indefinite detention and torture, you, me your gramma, everyone." This about says it all.

Until we get a representative government back, nothing will change for the better. It will only get worse. This regime does not care about anyone, or anything, unless it supports and promotes their agenda. Absolute power. Absolute control. Dominance. Empire.

Focus on what you can do to change things. Contact the local campaign office, and work your tail off to get your candidate(s) elected. Become active in your regional election or campaign finance reform group. Be the media. Work for change. Stay focused.

I know it's not easy to keep focused. What is going on in the Middle East is horrendous. You'd have to be a boulder, to not have it affect every cell in your body, every beat of your heart, and the most tender parts of your soul. But it is not going to change with this regime in power. It will only get worse.

17. Maybe so. How about the other issues?
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 09:48 AM by DistressedAmerican
Did we become a one issue country the day Israeli bombe started falling?

This election is about many things. All vital to our collective survival.

Feel free to think that nothing will change on the I/P thing. You may be right. You may not.

But, one thing is certain. If the same people are running the show there will be no change.

If we change up, many things WILL without a doubt change for the better. If we lose nothing will.
