red Kansas turning purple???
After brilliantly misleading the American public about weapons of mass destruction and the threat to the security of the United States by Iraq, and utterly failing on both fronts, President Bush recently gave eloquent speeches justifying the Iraq war. His main theme was bringing democracy to Iraq, which is supposed to lead to democracy in the Middle East, the defeat of terrorism and peace on Earth, sort of. Those who are not familiar with the history of this part of the world and with Shiite and Sunni conflicts once again were mesmerized by his speeches.
This war controversy is not about hurting our brave soldiers, not about being unpatriotic and other such ideas that are the arguments of pro-war people. It is about being patriotic and analyzing facts in a rational manner.

2. yea spoke too soon...this is opinion line callers call without ids and
spout their thoughts. Unfortunately some are pretty stupid

George Bush is our president, and we are his people. He should be able to read anybody's mail, intercept anyone's phone calls and spy on anyone in the United States.

8. So why can't we read his mail?
He said we can't read his mail so why should he invade my privacy? I wouldn't even let him touch my dog (if I had one).

3. That wasn't the only point in the book
Uneducated people will vote their bigotries if nobody bothers to address their economic interests. The GOP offered them an official stamp on their homophobia plus tax cuts. The Dems offered them the business as usual that was killing them plus no approval for bigotry.

Until and unless the Dems want to reclaim the family values of economic justice, fair taxation, fair trade (as opposed to the dogma of free trade), and hope for a better future, they deserve to be out of power.

There are literally thousands laid of due to the Boeing Sale to Onex. Also the other aircraft plants are not doing very well either.

The housing market in Kansas is terrible. There are a lot of vacant houses with for sale signs on them. The Christmas season sales were not up to par.

A year ago I did not think that things could get worse but it did. I really hate to think how bad things will be here in Kansas next year. All of these factors are slowly but surly turning a red state to a blue state

11. Wichita especially has struggled with economic issues
in the past several years.

I am thrilled to see this editorial from the Wichita paper. Good for them!

9. There are a lot of us here hoping it does.
This has been one hell of a discouraging year, but some people seem to be waking up now.

10. I grew up there . . .
My brother is rabidly antiBush. My two sisters are pretty red still, sadly. I still have hope for my home state.

12. This is great!
Is this usually a conservative paper? I am in KC and will admit I don't know a lot about the media in Wichita.

Let's hope the tide is finally turning in The Sunflower State.
