Email from RW cousin
This is a well educated 58 year old NYer.I give up, they are brain dead. There is no talking to them.

quote....
MY email to him concerning *'s signing statements.I deliberately sent RW pubs to prove my point.
Have you awakened yet?
Finally, Everyone is starting to awaken to the horrors of this administration, every his own party. Are you there yet?

HIS response

Yeah, and all your ultraliberal Democratic buddies are chastising Israel for beating up on the poor, downtrodden and misunderstood Hezbollah terrorists (disproportionate response, etc.). You should be very proud of the company you keep! Bush is the only President with enough balls to let the Israelis kick the shit out of the bastards, while most of the Democrats sit around complaining and criticizing. I applaud him.

end quote.......

That is exactly what they always do. CHANGE the subject when they don't want to deal with something distasteful about*. They have nothing enlightening/informative to say framed in any form of critical thinking.Everything is black and white....with of course name calling at it's best. They simple love the school yard bully . Can not see what this is costing us.

who are being killed, maimed, and made homeless. It's innocent civilians.

Why don't you suggest to your cousin that he at least inform himself? But, then, he likes Bush, so you'd have to expect he doesn't care about being informed.

We went back and forth with emails about a month ago. It was just more of the above. He just can't be reached. What is fascinating is he was raised a religious Jew. He married someone 20 years ago that may have changed everything. I have been gone from NY that long.

6. What, no gratuitous comment about Clinton or Ted Kennedy?
The RW branch of my spouse's family tries to change the subject by bringing up Kennedy's past because we used to live in Massachusetts.

7. I feel your pain; I received a highly racist and offensive post ..
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 11:22 AM by Maat
just recently from my nutty fundamentalist relatives, entitled "Can A Muslim Be A Good American?" My husband just ripped them a new one. These relatives will insist on supporting the Bushistas despite all of the facts to the contrary in the whole world; their position in the social structure in that Bible Belt town depends upon it. Needless to say, this has caused a HUGE rift in the family.

8. I have to say that the way this has been politicized here worries me
The RW noise machine has clearly been told to get on Israel's side 100%. As usual there can be no discussion beyond "KILL THE TERRORISTS" and by implication the left must be on the side of Hezbollah/the Palestinians. They have staked out their claim-they now own the pro-Israeli side. There can be no dissension in their ranks and there can be no duel ownership, LIBERALS SUPPORT THE TERRORISTS.

There you have it.

I wasn't aware of this until I happened to be in my car for several of the standard RW hate radio shows (Rush, Hannity, Savage) and did something I rarely do which is to flip over to Fox News. It is pretty clear that this is how they have decided the issue will be framed.

Aside from using this as another excuse to make the vote rigging seem more plausible ( the Jewish vote) this will serve as a clear wedge issue-their base is emboldened to fight the good fight again ( uh-huh) and the fence sitters will be asked to pick a side pro-terrorists or anti-terrorists.

Now the main problem here is that for the most part people are in the midst of their summer vacation haze (pre-vacation or post-vacation) and the ME is just too damned confusing and frustrating anyway.

Just an observation.

... located proximate to his rectal sphincter.

Just reply: "Since, by changing the subject, you agree that Junior's unconstitutional signing statements amount to an impachable offense, let's talk about the recent Congressional vote supporting Israel that garnered 98% of the votes, including Democrats. You're obviously misinformed by watching the outright lies on Faux News. Studies clearly indicate Faux News viewers are the most ill-informed in the nation. Why persist in being one? Stupid! Really stupid!"

23. (grin) It's practice. I also have a RW Faux-viewing cousin.
He follows the Faux script - repeatedly changing the subject to Clinton or "it could only be worse under Kerry." Absolutely EVERY time he changes the subject, I nail him as having agreed with the prior position I've posited. He's learning. Slowly. Verrrrry slowly.

25. LOL their learning curve isn't very encouraging, is it?
I'm lucky in that I don't have any RW friends or family. Thank God. But I do have a Republican (old-fashioned R) friend (who voted Kerry in 2004) who is very good to discuss with simply because that gives me a chance to hone my points and expand my horizon. It's ok when they listen, and actually credit what you say; it's when their minds are completely shut off it's practically hopeless. Those that listen aren't lost in the same way the Rushbots are.
