The Fox News Lies are working: Belief in Iraqi WMD is on the rise again
The Harris Poll #57, July 21, 2006:
Belief that Iraq Had Weapons of Mass Destruction Has Increased Substantially

Most people do not think that U.S. troops will be out of Iraq in the next two years

Despite being widely reported in the media that the U.S. and other countries have not found any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, surprisingly; more U.S. adults (50%) think that Iraq had such weapons when the U.S. invaded Iraq. This is an increase from 36 percent in February 2005.

<snip>

U.S. adults believe that the following are true about the war in Iraq:

- Seventy-two percent believe that the Iraqis are better off now than they were under Saddam Hussein (slightly down from February 2005 when 76 percent said this was true).
- Just over half (55%) think history will give the U.S. credit for bringing freedom and democracy to Iraq (down substantially from 64% in February 2005).
- Sixty-four percent say it is true that Saddam Hussein had strong links to Al Qaeda (the same as 64% in February 2005).

<snip>

WHAT PUBLIC BELIEVES TO BE TRUE
"Do you believe that the following statements are true or not true?"

Iraq had weapons of mass destruction when the U.S. invaded:
October 2004: 38%
February 2005: 36%
July 2006: 50%

3. I literally do not believe that such a swing AGAINST the truth
happened. I simply do not believe it. There must be some kind of mistake.

4. Oh I do- Santorum didn't do that "We found WMD" for no reason
don't kid yourself. We are going to see this pop up from time to time for years. The BIG LIE works in the face of anything.

5. I don't believe it either.
This had to be either a push-poll, or a mistake has been made in the polling. Simply not believable, and not because I don't want it to be true; it can't be true. That "we found WMDs" "news" story was quickly proven wrong.

8. I would much prefer it not be true either, but consider the following
1. Consider the willingness of the entire Republican Party Apparatus (which includes the whole of the White House and most of the Legislature) to lie, lie, lie.

2. Consider the willingness of the right-wing media to repeat these lies again and again, frequently as forgone conclusions (like Hannity's poll "What do you think about WMD being found in Iraq?" and not a more truthful "Do you think WMD have been found in Iraq?")

3. Consider the rest of the media's laziness in exposing Government lies.

4. Consider the Democratic Party's ineptitude at countering these lies.

And your conclusion must be that you should never underestimate the ignorance of the American public.

7. On second thought...
I don't know how they put the questions to this poll. Suppose you got a phone call from them and they asked you "Have we found any viable OR non-viable WMD's in Iraq"? The weapons found were from pre-Desert Storm and not viable, but they were weapons. This could be what they're getting at.
