Thin-skinned columnist SLAMS me in the local paper!
This guy means well... he is the lone liberal columnist in a local bird-cage liner here in L.A. County called The Daily Breeze. Nini's mom spotted this today and now allow me to share it with you...

http://www.dailybreeze.com/news/columnists/bogert/articles/2205322.html

Excerpt:

But what disturbed me were two comments, one from somebody called Zomby Woof stating, "The Torrance Daily Quease. I don't read that rag."

Well good for you, Mr. Woof.

-snip-

:bounce: Thanks for the plug there, Mr. Bogert. ;-)

This guy is usually on our side, but it must get old being a voice in the wilderness on that staff...

3. So now DU is a "blog"?
Meanwhile, this same column got picked up by a Web blog called demo-craticunderground.com. A blog is, of course, reporting without any oversight at all. In fact, I'm not certain that it is legal for this site to use my column without permission.

Two words, dude: fair use. And since when is DU a "blog"? Am I going to have to start coming to work in my pajamas now? Criminetly.

Even before it started to go downhill. I resented that paper even before it turned to the right.

41. The labor power in Wilmington is one reason the DB doesn't like it
The heart of the labor force in the south bay is based in Wilmington and in San Pedro. The working class union types are just an annoyance the pro corporation Daily Breeze enjoys pumping up. We're talking about a paper who covers areas that has corporations such as Ratheon and all those other defense type companies.

Wilmington does have soul. I grew up there so it can't be all bad. :D

16. I'm afraid I'm responsible for that, Mr. Woof
A good friend of mine is a reporter at the DB so when I saw that thread, I e-mailed it to him, not because of your post, but because the thread was mentioning the DB. And I've met John Bogert before at my friend's wedding a few years ago, so I was able to place a face to a byline.

So anyway, my friend, who is a member of DU but never posts and rarely logs on, posted for the first time in defense of the DB on that thread. I think his username is "Edsway" or something like that. And I guess he sent that link to Bogert.

My issue with Bogert's column is this statement: "What am I, content provider to the slacker world?"

The real slackers are the MSM, including the DB, for they haven't even made an attempt to report the truth about this administration. At least we do that here.

So I'll probably fire an e-mail off to tell him that.

And if he knew what my day job was, he would retract that slacker comment with his lip marks freshly affixed to my ASS. :D

or is slipping off a bicycle seat worse?

It seems likely you were talking about YOUR sarcasm, which I missed rather than his, althoug his "good for you" is clearly a sarcastic remark, and yours is not. Should it have been obvious? Reading the thread up to my post, it does not seem like many of the other responses caught your sarcasm.

36. In case Mr. Bogert sees this.. let me explain
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 09:35 PM by nini
I grew up in Wilmington - part of the area this paper covers. As Mr. Bogert states, there aren't many papers that cover local issues in this South Bay area of L.A. - the other one that comes to mind is the Long Beach Press Telegram.

I grew up seeing slanted coverage in the Daily Breeze of the town I grew up in. My town wasn't affluent like other cities in the area. My town deteriorated over the years and as it did it became more of a target in this right wing paper. I tired of the negative stories only as they didn't bother writing about anything good happening in the area.

The paper's owners are right wing hacks who play the right wing media role to a 'T'. They're so right wing they would never be accused of being part of the 'liberal media'. They have propped up this immoral administration the last 5 years with the best of the right wing media such as Fox news. I refused to continue to give my dollars to this paper after repeatedly seeing them endorse all republican candidates and the wrong side of local issues, in addition to them being part of the media in the right wing's pocket.

While Mr Bogert is more liberal than not, I wish he would call out his employer before calling out anonymous posters on the internet. His paper may be one of the few to report on local issues in this area, but they also ran the little guys out of business. Being the only paper in the area does not make its opinions and coverage legitimate in the eyes of true journalism. They are biased and on the wrong side. As long as that paper continues to tote the line for a corrupt administration and right wing agenda they will not get my attention or money.

To hell with them. I'm done supporting those corporations.

Mr. Woof - good for you.

:patriot:

To be honest, if I didn't work here I too would use against it a word coined to describe the lurid fact-free tabloids of another era. I would also boast that I don't read the only South Bay daily covering city government, schools, fire departments, police, courts and local sports wrapped in a color package featuring national and international news, local personalities and culture at a cost of 25 cents.

We'll even deliver the paper to your house, just like 100 years ago.

55. So here the e-mail I sent him (Bogert, if you're reading this, join us)
If it weren’t for Democratic Underground and other political “Web blogs”, unconscionable liberals like me would have nowhere else to read about the crimes, corruption and constitutional desecrations committed by the Bush regime over the last five years.

Their popularity is fueled by the mainstream media’s unwillingness to report the fact that our president is a naked idiot who won on fraud.

Twice.

The real slackers are the mainstream media who have turned the Fourth Estate into a presidential public affairs agency.

My DU username is RagingInMiami. Or if you prefer, Mr. Miami.
