One Dem Sen. voted against the Sem Cell bill. WHO?
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Tuesday strongly backed bipartisan legislation to expand federally funded embryonic stem cell research, but President George W. Bush has vowed to veto the measure as morally indefensible.

The vote was 63-37, four short of the 67 that would be needed to overturn the veto that could come on Wednesday. All but one Democrat voted for the bill, while 19 Republicans backed it and 36 opposed it.

9. It was Nelson of NE, and *no* we don't need to get rid of him.
He's a Democratic Senator from a Republican state. There will *NEVER* be a liberal Democratic Senator from Nebraska, at least not from today's Nebraska.

Do the same people who complain about DiFi not obeying her constituency hypocritically complain about a conservative Democratic Senator from obeying his constituency?

I am *very* liberal. But even I can understand that the alternative to a conservative Democratic Senator from Nebraska can *ONLY* be a wacko Repug Senator from Nebraska. I'll take the former any day.

10. But who are the people he represents?
if they were democrats of any persuasion, he wouldn't always be voting with the Repukes! He always does. So he's not really representing his constituents if they are Democrats!

DiFi represents one of the most liberal parts of this country--that's why we're almost always furious with her. There's no Californian as conservative as she is, unless it's a Republican!

Nelson needs to be replaced with a progressive, as soon as is possible. Maybe not now. But soon. Nebraska surely will come up with one at some point. Just give Bush another year or two in office.

:kick:

15. Senators represent everybody in the entire state.
I have a BIG bone to pick with DiFi because she does *NOT* represent her constituents. Likewise Joementum in progressive CT. However, I am not a hypocrite about these things. Nelson represents his very conservative state the way he has to. That's why he *will* be reelected in November.

Asking for a progressive Senator from Nebraska is outright delusional right now. No matter how much we all want that it ain't gonna happen anytime soon. The *ONLY* possible alternative to Nelson is another Republican Senator from Nebraska.

Please open your eyes to reality here.

16. I'm far from delusional
and said NE needs a progressive as soon as possible. Correct. they don't have one at the moment. DiFi will get re-elected too. Just like Nelson. Compare, contrast. They are representatives of the Democratic Party who supposedly voted them into office. I can't say how Nebraska democrats compare to CA Democrats. No one should have to.

As I said, give Bush another year or so and you'll see progressive dems in Nebraska, I'll bet.

17. Apples and Oranges
DiFi is apples, Nelson (D-NE) is oranges.

DiFi is a conservative from a very liberal state. Nelson is a conservative from a conservative state. Saying that they are the same thing *is* delusional. Politically, they are entirely different animals. No Senator from Nebraska can be elected by Democrats only. There just aren't enough of them.

Let me repeat it so that you can understand this:
The only possible result of running a progressive Democrat for Senator in Nebraska is the election of a Republican Senator.

Let's take a look:

..State...--Bush 2000----Gore 2000----Bush 2004----Kerry 2004
California.....42%..........52%..........45%...........54%
.Nebraska......62%..........33%..........66%...........33%

Hmmm. Nebraska looks pretty damned conservative to me. In fact, it is the 4th most Republican state in the country. But maybe I'm wrong and you're right.....

What do you think? Do you really think that a progressive Democrat is going to get elected Senator in Nebraska?

A snowball has a better chance in Hell, my friend.

I'm not a smart ass. I just pay attention to the facts.

20. Precisely.
That's why I cannot get excited about Nelson's vote today. But it's why Feinstein (one of my Senators) pisses me off regularly. I also think Joementum has to go. Maybe that can happen this year. However, it looks like we'll never get rid of DiFi.

That's why I continue to write her letters. I wrote her one today to thank her for her Gonzo Gotcha in the Senate subcommittee, telling her that this issue is important to me and that if the President is acting under non-existant war powers that there needs to be some accountability for that.

21. Nelson has some of the highest approval ratings in the senate
usually in the 70s. And unlike Lieberman, he gets higher ratings from Democrats.
