Dem opponent polls dead even with Mean Jean Schmidt in OH-2
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 03:22 AM by longship
Things sure have changed since Paul Hackett nearly handed Mean Jean her head on a platter in the OH-2 special election.

According to Political Wire the latest poll in this district has D-Wulsin/R-Schmidt at dead even with 44% each.

What makes this even more compelling is that the Jean Schmidt campaign is effectively broke.

Here's Wulsin's 2nd Qtr filing:
2nd Qtr donations $41k
Total donations $62k
Cash on Hand $25k

Here's Mean Jean's 2nd Qtr filing:
2nd Qtr donations $148k
Total donations $454k
Cash on Hand $18k

That's no typo. I got this directly from the FEC site. Jean Schmidt is dead even with an opponent who has raised almost no money and is running a shoestring campaign. Meanwhile, Schmidt has spent almost all her money and she's still not ahead in a district which is normally a safe Republican district.

I'd say that this is significant.

2. No matter how much money you have, it's not dollars but votes that count
A leftist would have a better time gaining the vote of a person by advocating things like affordable health care, good schools, steady jobs than a corporatist who campaigns on the tripartite equation of gays, guns, and God. No matter how much you may agree with the Repub on the social issues, you generally vote to protect your wallet from things like out-sourcing and sticker shock from health care, gas, and food.

It is a testament to the power of cooperation and mutualism as opposed to dog-eat-dog individualism.

3. It's Ohio! Even the votes don't count.
But points well taken.

4. Yeah, my argument collapses completely if you don't count the votes.
In that case, it wouldn't matter how you campaign. You'll still lose on election night if you challenge the status quo.

5. Is Wulsin going to get any help?
I would really love to see Mean Jean get her butt kicked back to Ohio. . .permanently.
