Had An Interesting Discussion With My 11-Yr.-Old Cousin This Morning
We just had a family reunion this weekend. We had guests from Florida and Colorado, with most being from my home state- Wisconsin. My cool little cousin is from Colorado, and they are staying in campers on our property. Well, he comes in this morning, just as I'm having coffee & tuning in to see what's going on in the world. I told him I just heard that bu$h was caught swearing on t.v. Then we got into a discussion about
bu$h, the W-ar, etc. He said that most of the kids at his school can't stand bu$h, and that they should end the war and bring the soldiers home, and that he should be impeached, etc. It was just me and him, and I was so impressed by this young man. I told him that I was surprised because Colorado is so "republickin'", and they voted for bu$h, etc. He (my cool little cousin) really cares about our country, and I was just bursting with pride and hope, yes, hope, just in talking with him. I said "Hey, you sound like a future U.S. senator or President!" He just sort of smiled and didn't say much, but I could see it made him feel good. He is going through a lot right now too, and his aunt & uncle brought him here for the reunion to sort of get away for a while. (His parents are recently separated & I hope they can somehow work things out.) Anyway, I just thought I'd post something about this. Oh, one more thing, he said that some kids (not too many) say Kerry wanted to take away our guns, and he said "Well, Clinton was President for 8 years, and the guns are still here, people are still hunting and all that." He said that usually shuts them up and they just go back to playing, etc., which I thought was cool, and I told him that it was nice to hear that people who disagree can talk. Anyway, here's to you Wyatt!:patriot:

4. The kids today are really great. I have a 14 year old grandson
who is very aware of things although he tells me he hates politics. However, he often emails me things about *ss that he and his friends of the internet have found interesting. I think we have a great future with these kids if we can save the country for them.

5. I think us old folks underestimate the young of today
We think of ourselves at 11 and how we didn't have a clue.
But that was a different time...we had the cold war and a republican president, Eisenhower but we were not worried about being attacked because we had just kicked major ass against the fascist, and we had faith in our government to keep us safe from the nuclear threat.
It is a whole different world that the young of today are in, and there knowledge of what is going on is far greater.

7. My 5 year old grandaughter
Does not like her car booster seat. Whenever I tell her that it is the law, that she must wear her seat belt, she replies: that goverment lies, because bush lies. She went on a trrip to washington whith her parents, and asked if she would meet bush the president who lies all the time. She is so cooooooool!!!!!!

9. Purple at BEST....
Colorado went Bush by a very slim margin; if anyone had been putting money into the state, we would have been a swing state. We got "In play" status in September 2004, which was far too late, even though political people in the state had been begging for money and people since late 2003 -- those of us who live here know EXACTLY how purple and moderate this state is.

And in the under 35 demographic (the hard part is getting us to vote, not to have opinions...) this state is overwhelmingly Liberal-Libertarian (pay for services that have to be supported publicly, but otherwise leave people alonee to do as they please in the private sphere).

And most of the state's Conservatives are the old-style paleo-cons, not these neo-conmen. I can get along with a small, effective, appropriate, efficient government type. We may not agree on everything, but we agree that him controlling my life and me controlling his are Very Bad Things.

12. Hey...we're trending more and more blue with each passing...
election.

Denver always has Dem mayors (Hickenlooper has been kickass).

Looks like Ritter (not my favorite...but a Dem nonetheless) is going to win the Governors spot.

And remember, we have MAJOR Republican organizations to battle against down in the Springs...Focus on the Family, Christian Coalition, New Life Church.

Our State House and Senate are now controlled by the Dems...as of the last election.

We are NOT so "republikan" as you say. Living in Denver...I know literally no repulicans that live in Denver. I know they are out there...but our city is half the population of the whole state...and the city is still growing at a fast rate.

And I personally phone banked and canvassed many an afternoon in Denver prior to the last election. And I only ran into a handful of republicans (I know, I know...we're basically reminding registered dems and indies).

We're obviously a lot more progressive here than you realize.
