Gingrich Says We are in WWIII - do you agree with him?
Newt says we are in WWIII and Bush should come out and say so.

I just don't agree with that at all. Yes, there is proliferation of very extreme Islamist on the march in the Middle East. But I don't think we are anywhere near a WWIII scenario.

However, it would help a lot if we actually had a "foreign policy" to deal with foreign affairs. I see no evidence that we have any policy whatsoever.

Here we are with a world situation that is getting pretty serious and we have total incompetents in the WhiteHouse. We have a president who think all it will take is to get Syria to lean on Hezbollah and this will all just go away. Wonderful! He is just a deep thinker, don't you think?

5. I'm actually afraid it could escalate if Isreal gets into it with Syria
or especially Iran, then Bush sends support against Iran. I doubt that would happen (I hope not anyway), but things DO seem especially touchy right now.

8. Gingrich is water boy for PNAC and RW radicals. He is also
(IMO) a scumbag liar - which is a trait he shares with the current leader of the free world. Completely disregard 99.999% of what these people say the second it comes out of their mouths.

He is trying to manipulate, form and control public opinion. That's all there is to it. The 2% of the people who believe what he says will spread it like a virus everywhere they go. The people who don't believe it will also repeat his outrageous BS over and over. This is an essential part of this kind of whispering campaign strategy.

Our foreign policy in the ME is primarily covert operations, military occupation and strong arm politics at this point. This administration does not believe in playing nice. They are a privileged class and taking what they want is their birthright.

10. I think we are close
Edited on Mon Jul-17-06 08:18 AM by Toots
I think if Iran and Syria are attacked things will spiral completely out of control and Russia and China will be drawn into it. Until that time it is still only a mideast crisis. World War means exactly that. The entire world is involved just as it was in WW II and WW I and not just a few countries in the Mideast.

19. It is a regional conflict. Even if there are multinational forces present.
IMO "World War" means just that. War all over the world. WWI involved primarily Europe, the Middle East and Russia and the Balkans.

WWII was truly a global conflict with military conflicts around the globe.

To call the middle east conflict WWIII is fear mongering. Even if Syria and Iran become more overtly involved (as they are most certainly involved even now) it will still be regional.

Russia and the rest of the world will act within the guidelines of the UN and so should we.

China will stand by and watch us destroy ourselves and come in and pick up the pieces when it's over. They do need to protect their oil interests though.

My feeling is that the root of this conflict is the worlds rejection of the democratically elected leadership for Hamas. Israel, and I am sure covert military and intelligence agencies from various countries have been hard at work killing and disappearing grassroots political leaders from Hamas. Only when Hamas responded in kind did anyone seem to take notice.

12. Rs want us to buy WW3 starting, so war will live long and prosper them.
Edited on Mon Jul-17-06 08:25 AM by Festivito
Rs seem to send some non-responsible party to do dirty work. Here Gingrich gets to pass the idea. Nobody required to agree with Newt NOR deny Newt. Nobody who must run for office that is.

Lots of money to be made from war. Lots of campaign donations to be received. Lots of peripheral pundits to fund.

Discussion will not be on the rightness or wrongness of incident and response, ... no, we'll just accept the moniker "World War Three" as explanatory enough.

What if we started a war and no one came. No one funded the two sides. Could we just listen to news reports, not selling supplies to either side, just letting them expend all they have in ready.

ON EDIT ADDING: Perhaps if we wait, we can say, now, come let us reason together, calmly, talkingly, and find understanding or maybe just peaceful co-existence.

13. I am SICK to the freaking death ...
of these clowns using the WW comparisons ... GOOD GOD ... WWI and WWII featured acts of aggression by COUNTRIES with MILLIONS and MILLIONS of soldiers occupying DOZENS of countries ...

They want to quote FDR, use the WWII thing ... While CUTTING FREAKIN TAXES, something NEVER done by a country in history, and asking NOTHING in the way of sacrifices of the people, AND facilitating MASSIVE war profiteering ...

They had a clip of Guiliani at the Republican National Convention in 2004 ... Little weasel basturd ... Saying how this is a time in history when our country needs THEIR party in power ...

Just STFU already ...

14. Just More Framing Crap
GinGRINCH is nothing but an RNC hack and he is just mouthing more Frank Lund rhetoric. I am not saying that WWIII is not a possibility, but I am saying that with nuts like him and his ilk, they could bring it about while these religious wingnuts are dancing wildly around the fire, spears jumping in the shadows, blood and saliva flying.

If WWIII does break out, it is squarely on the shoulders of this bastard and others who are fomenting it because it is obvious they could give a rat's ass about America, the human death and misery they cause for millions or the devastation it will bring ~ just so long as he and his friends profit from it.

I hate what greed is doing to this world and I detest these people!

The Talibornagain wants to war with Fundamentalist Islam -- it is what they think will bring about both of their being saved.

Don't let them do that to you. This is your world too.
