*Graphic* Israel Slaughters More People Today Including 15 Children

<snip>

An Israeli missile incinerated a van in southern Lebanon, killing 20 people, among them 15 children, in the deadliest single attack of the campaign launched by Israel after Hizbollah captured two of its soldiers and killed eight on Wednesday.

Police said the van was carrying two families fleeing the village of Marwaheen after Israeli loudspeaker warnings to leave their homes. Many of the bodies were charred and broken.

Raids on roads, ports and petrol stations in north, east and south Lebanon killed 12 people and wounded 32, security sources said, bringing the death toll in four days of Israeli attacks to 100. All but four of the dead were civilians.

I certainly would hope it was not a deliberate attack on innocent civilians. I don't believe that is the policy of the Israeli government.

17. Interesting question. A van containing two families fleeing from ...
... a village after being exhorted to do so by Israeli forces. Fifteen of twenty people, three-quarters, are children - assumedly because twenty adults wouldn't fit in the van - sure doesn't sound like a legitimate military target to me. So, yes - if I take the story on face value then I must assume the van was targeted in order to kill the maximum number irrespective of any other consideration. Unless one INVENTS some rationale unsupported by the news article, the sole targeting rationale was the density of human life in the van and the objective to KILL.

Where was all this remorse for Israeli women and children that were slaughtered by Hezbollah suicide bombs on Israeli busses and department stores.... Where was all this concern and compassion for innocent Israeli civilians that were blown to bits by Hezbollah rockets that blew up in civilian neighborhoods....

Or is it only certain groups of civilians that we should be compassionate to...

I myself
hate to see any innocents killed no matter what their race or religion. What Israel is doing is as much of a crime as any terrorist group. The difference of course is their military superiority (thanks to US taxpayers) and their ability to slaughter more human beings with it. Collective punishment on a country for the crimes of a few. It is Israels way.

With pictures and captions and whatever else you want? Why come on here and complain about what you're not seeing when you are free to post what you want to be seen. And for the record the media in the US never fails to mention the casualties in Israel and I hear and see very little of what is happening to the innocents in Lebanon.

27. Simple-- just do a quick news search after any of the horrific
attacks on Israeli civilians by terrorists.

We rightly get the names, life histories, back stories, and the like for each and every one.

When Lebanese and Palestinian civilians are killed...we're lucky if we get names, ages, or genders.

In other words-- nice try, but no frikkin cigar. Get. over. oneself.

46. I think what people are objecting to is the habit that
the Israeli Army acquired under the Begin administration in the 1980s, of over-reacting to every terrorist attack and administering collective punishments, especially since all it does is create more enemies.

Their "get tough" policy has done nothing but aggravate a revenge cycle that periodically spirals out of control.

If it hasn't worked in over 20 years, it's not going to work now.

60. It's everywhere
I'm so sick of both groups thumping their chests and demanding all the world commiserate with them and them alone for horrors of their own making.

EVERYONE is horrified when Jewish children are killed. EVERYONE is horrified when Arab children are killed. This is life and death; it's not a $%*&ing public opinion poll. The people of the world deserve better than our leaders. But I guess that's always the case except in very, very rare circumstances.

21. The most ethical army ...
Edited on Sat Jul-15-06 02:09 PM by Jim__
This is an excerpt from War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning". This happened at the Khan Younis refugee camp in the Gaza Strip:

It was still. The camp waited as if holding its breath. And then, out of the dry furnace air a disembodied voice crackled over a loudspeaker from the Israeli side of the camp's perimeter fence.

"Come on, dogs." the voice boomed in Arabic. "Where are all the dogs of Khan Younis? Come! Come!"

I am omitting a paragraph here where the soldiers taunt the boys cursing their familes, their mothers, etc.

The boys darted in small packs up the sloping dunes to the electric fence that separated the camp from the Jewish settlement abutting it. They lobbed rocks toward a jeep, mounted with a loudspeaker and protected by bulletproof armor plates and metal grating, that sat parked on the top of a hill known as Gani Tal. The soldier inside the jeep ridiculed and derided them. Three ambulances - which had pulled up in anticipation of what was to come - lined the road below the dunes.

There was the boom of a percussion grenade. The boys, most no more than 10 or 11 years old, scattered, running clumsily through the heavy sand. They descended out of sight in front of me. There were no sounds of gunfire. The soldiers shot with silencers. The bullets from M-16 rifles, unseen by me, tumbled end-over-end through their slight bodies. I would see the destruction, the way their stomachs were ripped out, the gaping holes in their limbs and torsos, later in the hospital.

I had seen children shot in other conflicts I had covered - death squads gunned them down in El Salvador and Guatemala, mothers with infants were lined up and massacred in Algeria, and Serb snipers put children in their sightsand watched them crumple onto the pavement in Sarajevo - but I had never watched soldiers entice children like mice into a trap and murder them for sport.

The most ethical army... Murdering children seems to be one of their specialties.

29. Here we see six dead children
Six among many others who we don't see here. A number of dead men, women, and children fast reaching hte hundred mark, and GBS only knows how many wounded.

We don't know their names, where they're from, their parents, where they were going. If it weren't for these photographs, we wouldn't even know their faces

We're being told by our leaders, our media, even some of our friends over the internet and face-to-face conversation that hte deaths of these people are "worth it". That we should console ourselves that despite all appearances, their deaths were accidents. That it only those two men were given back, these six children would still be alive.

We are being told that those two men, and others like them, by virtue of race, nationality, or religion depending on who's speaking, are indivudually worth dozens or more of these other people. That no matter the cost in human life of this exercise, it is somehow "worth it" because of that value disparity between one human being and the next.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not accepting that. Not today, not tomorrow, never.

There's always a hew and cry over raising the spectre of Israeli COLD BLOODED KILLING of innocents. Well, I'm sure that toddler in the picture, the one dead and missing an arm, will be happy to debate how many Israelis have been killed by Hamas.

Get over it. Neither Israel nor Palestinian can claim the high ground in this STUPID, cyclical, religious-based killing. A pox upon both of their houses.

64. "Hillary Clinton says Israel has right to defend itself"
Stop the presses. Hillary has an epiphany:

Hillary Clinton says Israel has right to defend itself

July 15, 2006, 11:21 PM

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - New York Senator Hillary Clinton says Israel's incursion into Lebanon is an exercise of the right that every sovereign nation has to defend itself against attacks.

Clinton was at Fayetteville this afternoon on a rare visit to her former Arkansas stomping grounds. She said Israel had the right to take stern and strong action against Hezbollah attacks originating in Lebanon.

Asked if her support extended to Israel's bombing of the Beiruit international airport, she said, "I fully support Israel's right to defend itself."

Clinton was speaking in front of the Clinton House Museum, the small brick house where she and Bill Clinton were married in 1975.

She said Israel has the right to send a message to Hezbollah and Hamas militants and their supporters in Syria and Iran that it would not tolerate attacks against its territory and troops.
