Is there a connection between the Israel/Lebanon hostilities and...?
the breakdown of any order in Iraq? How could there be any connection? Would they try to distract them and divert them to another area, and away from the disaster in Iraq? Or is this just the continued deterioration of the Mideast "democracy" project by the great thinkers, George W Bush and the neo-cons? It's rather predictable, through all our lessons of history, that war does not create peace. Violence breeds more violence. There are no "victors" in war - only survivors. Left behind is always death, grief and sorrow. Do you know anyone that has not learned that lesson?

some water lines.

Remember, the war in Iraq has four or five main purposes - one is to protect Israel and one of the ways to do it is to get oil AND WATER lines running to the Mediterranean. Oil and water are equals here, as I understand it.

(After all, why shouldn't melting glacier water NOT go to Israel - strictly, my supposition and sarcasm.)

3. In the sense that Iraq has been a gift to Iran, yes.
The Administration has foolishly tied up men and treasure in Iraq with no hope of getting them out in the short-term.

In doing this, they gave Iran a much greater free reign in the Middle East than it otherwise would have.

And....oh wait, it gets better.

Iran is playing a large role (behind the scenes) in the insurgency in Iraq in the hopes of creating a Shi'ite-dominated client state there.

And...oh wait, it gets better. The success of the insurgency has increased Iran's clout and influence and seems free to push Hezbollah into this conflict with Israel. And it has given itself the confidence to develop its nuclear program.

4. Yes, That's Probably the Biggest Link

Hezbollah and Israel go back many years. This is a departure. If Iraq were calm under a US-dominated government, no chance this would be happening.
