Mark my words. "Big Air" will snatch up all those bicycle air pumps and start denying patents.

Just you watch.

11. the markets are down mildly
who would not expect that. The Chinese market is down pretty heavily but that is most likely because of movements in the Yuan...why the fear? If the fed chairman hiccups in the morning before a meeting, the whole world panics...much worse than this...

14. Have No Expertise Here, What Is Considered A Bad Day In The Markets ???
I notice when the market (DJIA) drops over a hundred points in a day, it usually works out to about 1%. So I imagine that a 300 point drop would be about a 2% - 3% drop. That's why the 4% drop in China stands out.

Does any of this mean anything in the real world?

All info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

15. it is all about percentages
and a 3 or 4 percent drop in a market is not good, but it isn't terrible either. Right now the Yaun is being discussed heavily here (valuation of that currency) and it could be having the effect you are seeing. The Asian markets are reacting to the crisis in the middle east, but right now, everyone (at least financially) seems to be taking it calmly. Wars disrupt trade and hurt markets pretty badly sometimes...but this is (for now) a little skirmish that has little effect on the world as a whole unless it spreads in the region.

If things stay hot...if they spread...then we could start having real oil price worries and the like.

Back to class for me...

I needed to fill up anyways, as the gas gauge in my car had been reading a needle above E for the past couple of days (I try to drive as infrequently as possible).

22. Unless I have to make an unexpected trip
I won't have to get gas until next month. I love being able to get 40 mpg out of my 8 y/o Honda. I just wish a bike were practical around here, I could use the exercise.

Oil rises above $75 on US stock fall, Iran tension

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Oil surged near a record high on Thursday after a sharp fall in U.S. crude stocks, forecasts of accelerating demand growth from 2007 and an impasse in the diplomatic stand-off between Iran and the West.

U.S. crude futures climbed 42 cents to $75.37 a barrel by 0539 GMT, after a 79-cent rally on Wednesday. London Brent jumped 55 cents to $74.94 a barrel.

"The dramatic decrease in U.S. inventories is propping up the market and we're seeing an extension of the bullish sentiment which followed the numbers on Wednesday," said Dariusz Kowalczyk, senior investment strategist at CFC Securities in Hong Kong.

"But remember that the decrease is due entirely to lower imports, which can be very volatile from week to week," he said.

26. I told my husband we ARE buying bikes this coming weekend.
Edited on Thu Jul-13-06 02:54 AM by TheGoldenRule
He wanted to take care of other stuff, but I'm feeling that bikes are a total necessity RIGHT NOW the way things are going. So he tells me he wants a name brand crui$er (couldn't talk him into a cheap bike from Target-LOL) and I'm getting an adult tricycle-the old lady kind of bike that has a big basket you can put stuff in. We are 3 miles from town and he is 7 miles from work. Not an ideal location, but workable, I hope!

I know I will feel a bit better when we have this backup transportation, such as it is! :scared:

29. unless you have a huge storage facility
filling up the tank won't do much good - eventually you will have to fill it up again and at higher prices

we're ordering heating fuel this week for the winter. we have a 500 gallon tank in the celler. Will probably get 200 gallons for now

won't use much of it between now and the onset of cold weather, but by the time we've paid for this delivery we'll be able to order another 200 or so gallons to top off the tank

meanwhile - the "cord wood" fund has started (we put aside about $50 a week), and we've contacted our cord wood connections to get prices/arrange for some deliveries

I know - it's summer and the last thing you would think about is heating the house - but time flies and the cold weather is only 3-4 months away
