I just figured out my taxes, and whoo-hoo!
I don't have any deductions, I'm a single guy, no kids, middle-class person. I actually had more money withheld from my paycheck each week, hoping for a bigger tax return ($5 per week, adds up to $260/yr). So imagine my shock when I realize I'm getting back LESS this year than last year!

Must not be rich enough to take adavantage of all those "tax breaks".

2. Having more taken out
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 09:46 AM by tritsofme
Is like giving the government an interest free loan.

I try to get the smallest refund possible, or even owe money if at all possible.

3. You gotta get married, make some kids and have a shitty salary...
To take full advantage if you're unable to be a billionaire.

That's us...we're getting over $4000 grand back this year. I think we'll splurge on getting the car fixed and pay bills...maybe a meal at a nice restaurant if there's some left over.

4. I feel your pain
People who believe that Bush gave us a tax break are just plain stupid. We pay more now than ever. Its like Randi Rhodes would say PEOPLE!! You are paying higher health care cost higher energy cost but hey you got tax break.

6. Try being married with no kids.
The wife and I did that for a few years. Owed money every year. Then along came the house, the kids and the refunds.

I haven't got a dime back from the IRS in 20 years. I've always had to pay.

10. Single people are the most highly taxed people in our society
but just remember, women make 78 cents to every man's dollar whether single or married, so you are more fortunate than a single woman with no kids.

I agree with the other posters that you should probably not withhold so much. Also do you own your own home? There's the world's best tax shelter.

I will get back money on the interest I paid for my mortgage last year. Maybe $1000 if I'm lucky. If you don't own your own home you are throwing money away.

13. Start a home based business. Something that you can do when
you go on vacations or buy things like computers. You get a ton of tax breaks.

14. sheeit, that isnt new though i am sure you are correct
that you are having even MORE come out of your check. i was single and playing throuhout 20's and into 30's. so i know where you speak. i would have the MOST taken out, my only hope was not to have to pay in, but it was always a very meger amount that came back.
