can be flipped if presented with sufficient information.

I'm intriqued by this 23% who readily fall sway to authoritarian control. I wonder if this percentage is a constant in any significant population, ready to be unleashed, to be used, when an appropriate leader arrives.

However, at that time, I couldn't conceive of the USA doing nefarious deeds like that all over the world. Unfortunately, now I know better.

24. I've always said that their hard core was 27-37 % with a high of 37%
because of 9-11.

If it can be proven that the 19 hijackers were arranged and the vote in FL was stolen, it will drop to 23% - since I believe that some in that group have a logical mind and can finally figure out what they and we have lost.

What would be interesting to know is the % of leaders and profiteers in that 23% vs religious right vs unbending monied country club and non-born again loyalists.

33. He breaks them down into two groups: leaders and followers. And you know-
you might also draw the same distinction within the religious right. The leaders and followers are very different sorts in that crowd as well. Seems like the leaders desire nothing but wealth and power, and are essentially amoral, while the followers just want to be told what to think.

Hmm.

34. This clearly explains
why Democrats or liberals do not, and cannot, speak with "one voice." Even though the media keeps trying to paint it as our weakness, I believe it's our strength and what will ultimately save this country (if it's not too late). I found it interesting that John Dean stated that while probably only 1 percent of liberals are authoritarian, 23 percent of those who identify themselves as conservative are hard-core authoritarians. This is definitely a scary statistic.

Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 09:13 PM by YOY
We try to avoid talking politics at the office. She has mentioned 'her boy' Bush, of which I usually mention something about fake Cowboys or 'mission accomplished.' Whenever she brings up Clinton, I usually mock desparation and say 'Oh how did we ever survive those dark years???'

We have a mutual understanding just not to bring it up so name calling or telling someone to 'get out of my country' doesn't happen.

That being said I think she's just rather inexperienced and naive. I gather there may be hope yet to save her if someone can ween her off of the RW radio pundits she listens to with earphones.

She's also got some weird hangups about maried couples having sex. She mentions that when she sees a pregant couple she things they've been doing 'something naughty.' Mind you, my wife is 8 months preggers...amazing, but she can be a rather nice person at times...she just needs some serious help (or to meet a nice liberal guy to show her the way...he'd have his work cut out for him.)
