For my 1000th post: Bush Lies Under Oath.
Edited on Sun Jul-09-06 02:37 AM by Ravy
I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States,
and will, to the best of my ability, Preserve, Protect, and Defend the Constitution of the United States.

Just a reminder of the stakes. 'Nuff said.

The cosmic rhinestone cowboy broke his oath. He swore on the bible he claims to hold so dear.

3. Aw come on, that's not a lie!
Edited on Sun Jul-09-06 02:46 AM by varkam
He said 'to the best of my ability'! The man doesn't have two brain cells to rub together, let alone protect the constitution.

edit for double negative (that's ironic, considering I was insulting someone else's intelligence)

7. And that was only the first of the many (if you ignore Funeralgate)
However, I wish people stop being so hung up on "lying under oath".
High crimes and misdemeanors can be many - and in this case the list is endless.
The most eggregious one would be "lying to Congress in discharging of his duty" (SOTU-16 words+)
Just because the wingnuts tried to get Clinton on a technicality - we need not repeat their artifice.
There's betrayal, war crimes, murder through neglect (NOLA), torture, twarting of the Constitution in many ways.
So, sorry if the oath thingy - in other words "he lied" seems a triffle trivial to me today.

9. Granted, his crimes are many
However, I think his failure to preserve and protect our constitution is far from trivial.

11. It was a bit tongue-in-cheek....
The Constitutional abuses (and their are many) don't seem to be enough to evoke a response from the Republican Congress-- However, they seem to really get up-in-arms about lying. Well, if a Democrat does it, anyway.

16. There are a lot, I think,,, here are a few.
Non-adherance to the Geneva Convention (the constitution says that treaties are to be treated as law)
The signing statments.
He called treasury bonds "junk pieces of paper".
The listening in of phone conversations.
I am not sure about the bank records, no one seems to know the depth of searching that has been done.

Those are a few that come to mind. Googling "Bush Unconstitutional" will give you lots of hits. Some are stretches, most are not. All show Bush's utter disregard for that "goddamned piece of paper" as he calls it.
