Pelosi step down !! --- Conyers needs to be minority leader
Oh, I'm sure the stupid idiot comments will come fast and furious. But I've fucking had it!!

I just saw the Pelosi townhall meeting held in San Francisco Saturday and I had all I could do not to throw a chair through my television. What words in the sentence-- Bush's polls below 40% and sinking-- does she need interpreted? Well no shit, we need to put our energies into voting to change congress in November. But Pelosi what the hell are you doing to energize it?

Conyers is literally a one man tank just begging for a little support to roll the republicans into oblivion. All you gotta do is get in the goddamn thing and ride. And what do you do? You make the former minority leader look like an idiot in our own party. He's the one that's taking the initiative. You're vanilla impaired. He's laying the groundwork for censure and impeachment to ramp up awareness and put the republicans in a hypocritically and totally untenable position to defend it. And you won't even sign on to it!!!!

As long as you let the republicans keep coming out like rats for cheese at night and enable them, they're going to keep putting detour signs on the road so the college impaired public, wavering independents and confused republicans that are disillusioned with their own party and still salvageable, never learn what the hell they're really doing.

To not unite the party behind the goddamn people who are IMPLORING you to do so and instead trying to find plausible sounding reasons to explain division within our own party is not leadership. That's being intimidated and contrary to everything this democratic party used to stand for.

This is no game. Frist whimpered right into his corner after he saw what his tantrum got him after Reid shut the place down. There would be such a free for all in the Senate if Frist tried to outlaw filibusters that he would be signing his political death warrant.

This is the last hourglass of sand with me this year. If you don't want to start a civil war over elections which are as rigged as those in Saddams' Iraq, you damn sure better do it over this laundry list of 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree felonies plus treason. As clearly committed as if the New York Times found a check written to Bush from Bin Laden.

Your responses in that town meeting infuriated me. It showed me that Conyers has everything you're lacking. Do you need to be told you're in the same party. Do you know which of the two of you the Democrats out here that you represent are cheering? It's not you!! If Republicans are so busy being on the defense explaining to reporters why Bill Clinton was a high priority for impeachment and real high crimes and misdemeanors are not, we WILL change the congress.

My avatar means something to me and Goddammit, it better start meaning something to you. Or my anger will be well represented right after Halloween.

The elephants got so much shit coming at them now, it couldn't be any worse if they were walking behind a manure spreader. The Hatfields are never going to get along with the McCoys and it's time we showed them we are grabbing some balls....AND SQUEEZING. And in case nobody has told you, you're supposed to be the goddamn leader!!!!.

If you don't get that, then step aside because Conyers knows how !!!

13. I agree, he should be famous! I've had to tell fairly well informed
people who he is. The corporate media never covers him and if they do , they frame his as a kook or a loser, like the Washington post did after the Downing Street hearings.

25. Yes, he's aggressive...
As for ideas... he just knows what to do, I don't think it's necessarily 'ideas' he's as good at as generating momentum.

I'm impressed with the man, he is candorous to a fault.

Welcome to DU.

15. I agree. Conyers has been leading
regardless of polls, regardless of self-interest. Fearlessly stating what has needed to be said without recognition and often with ridicule from the press. He has serenely risen above it . In some ways, he is Gandhi-esque in that he seems detatched from political fallout. This is a quality he shares with AL Gore. The Freedom from Fear that the truly powerful possess. He should be the Minority Leader. He has earned it.

BUT-- I dont--

I think Harry Ried has shown his mettle. Conyers is a one man tank.

I say we get on that Tank, & ride it hard and long, no pun intended.

Imagine this-- Conyers calling the shots for the DEMS in the House---

Freakin Killer-- eh?

Edited on Mon Jan-16-06 09:59 PM by mikelewis
He would make the best leader, there is no doubt but John is about the only one in Congress who appears to have a handle on the scope of Bush's crimes and those of Congress. He needs to be the one to lead the investigations not play politics on the floor. Believe me, this is what he is yearning to do.

But I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of Nancy Pelosi. While she has shown some spunk, she has not delivered the kind of leadership we need right now. I believe she's capable of it but seems unwilling to jump in the deep end.

Well, Nancy, it's time to shit or get off the pot. It's in for a penny, in for a pound time. The party is marching to war, where do you stand? You can lead it or let it run over you but we are marching either way. Now is the time of heroes.

On edit-
Enthusiastically recommended.

23. hear! hear!
either lead with vigor and unwavering determination, or allow a proactive patriot like the Hon. John Conyers do the job ... the stakes have never been higher, and their too grave for pseudo-leadership ...

Take a clue from Al Gore's speech today, Nancy, and fight like every Founding principle, the very soul of our country depends on it ... wait a sec ... it does ...

33. President Conyers 2007: NOT QUITE the pipe dream it might seem
(repost from a few months back)

I would wage dollars to doughnuts that the vast majority of "informed" anti-neofascist people (including the rank and file Dem base) would love to "be able" to support John Conyers for our next Elected President of the United States.

I think the reality is that most however are fearful to even think in that direction. (Sort of an unspoken, "Liberal, and aged, and black. Oh My!")

That said, I also think that we here at DU could start the ball rolling and actually MAKE HIM PRESIDENT in 2007. Yes, really.

The process is discussed in this post from a couple months back.

The main thing to keep in mind is that "success" of such an effort (which I'd put at not quite 50/50, but not far worse) is secondary. Engaging in the effort itself could go a long way toward helping the Dems to "run the table" in 2006 and 2008.

She doesn't really speak forcefully. She usually spews some boring talking point and then only half-heartedly.

My take on Pelosi is this. I know this is superficial but let it sink in for a moment.

Pelosi is from California, she dresses and looks it even. For whatever reason she even looks like she has had a facelift. Now these things aren't bad, except in the context of national politics in an anti hollywood post 9/11 time. When some guy in Alabama sees her on CNN in response to something Bush did or Republicans did, he says to himself "Damn hollywood liberal pansies". From purely a national spokesperson superficial perspective, she seems to drive people away. In a time where fake bravado and national security are defining politics, we have Pelosi as the image of the Democratic party. That doesn't help sell our ideas. I'm not saying we get some Arnold Schwartzeneger or John Wayne clone in the national limelight, but I do suggest whoever it is has to be forceful, portray strength of character, and stick to their ideals. Not someone who repeats semi-interesting talking points half-heartedly while looking like she just walked out of a clothing store in Beverly Hills. OK now tell me I'm wrong, I can take it. And remember this is only a superficial spokesperson perspective, not a legislative perspective.
