But fortunately it didn't really go anywhere.

1. I don't believe this story AT ALL
It was a test launch. Korea was NOT attempting to attack Hawaii. Why do all these people lie so much? I guess they want war between the US and Korea?

4. Their glorious missile is two scuds stacked together.......
They would be lucky to hit a particular country with it let alone a tiny island

5. I Have A Question...
Why is it so difficult for them to design a decent missle? How come they can't acquire some from an outside source?

I guess I'm unfamiliar with technology, but I don't understand why they fired off duds that apparently didn't go far.

6. Got me. We seem to be having our own problems with missiles
and we have spent billions.

One guy said its like trying to hit a hole in one when the hole is going 17 thousand miles an hour.

7. but, you see
this is exactly the problem with North Korea flexing offensive capabilities, the runt is a complete NUT. As far as "importing" missile technology, that is old news. I am more concerned with the idiot EXPORTING missile technology.

we beat bushco around the head and shoulders for warmongering, why would anyone cheer Little Kim?

8. Well, I'm Not Cheering Him, But. . .
. . .i think this test is much ado about nothing. The missiles didn't work well. They weren't even carrying an equivalent payload. There is no evidence that any of them were even flying in the intended direction when they went down, or even were forming the correct ballistic trajectory to be a threat.

So, i can criticize Silverspoon and his thugs for fearmongering without praising NK for any actions they've ever taken. I'd just as soon not have addled-brained dictators playing with dangerous toys too!

9. I think I understand
the premise, I'm just saying that the North Korean munchkin is trying to accomplish two objectives:
1. tweak Bushco in the hopes that our own little madman will pull out his six shooter;
2. advertise his ability to manufacture and sell nasty toys with long distance capability

10. I Think We Agree
I think we're pretty much saying the same thing, just different phrasing. The only thing i'm wondering is if the North Korean silverspooner really has any salable goods. Missiles that don't appear to work would be hard to sell. No?

11. You are making a similar point to the ones I have made in other threads

That it could have been in the preliminary stages of a ballistic path towards the general area of Hawaii would not surprise me. If that was its intended target area I would be surprised. There is no evidence that the NKs are any better at guidance sections than they are at rocket motors. There is a certain amount of practical experience needed to get ballistic missiles to work correctly, and the NK's have little to none of that.

Edit: Left out one of those pesky prepositions

12. Full headline next time, please
"N. Korea missile aimed at area off Hawaii - report"

"TOKYO (Reuters) - A North Korean missile launched on Wednesday was aimed at an area of the ocean close to Hawaii, a Japanese newspaper reported on Friday."

This is probably true; firing a long-ranged missile in a way as to deal with as few other countries' airspace/etc as possible would put it in that general vicinity.

That does not mean that the missile was aimed at Hawaii. These are two rather different things, and there's enough of that spin going on as is.
