how Enron helped shape financial laws during the late 90's that helped alQaeda hide money transfers.

47. This is not at all paranoid, folks.
Edited on Thu Jul-06-06 03:59 AM by JackRiddler
With the trial and ritualistic punishment accomplished, the real investigation was set to begin. Kenny Boy was about to be squeezed in the effort to recover billions in plundered assets - billions that obviously certain as-yet unknown people would like to keep wherever they are currently hidden. With nothing left to lose personally, and better conditions in prison to gain, you might think he'd be ready to be helpful. The timing is just perfect, since the individual punishment of Lay did serve an important function of public catharsis. And then he drops dead! It's irresistable to think he was offed (or spirited away?) - as irresistable as it is rather pointless. You can definitely file this one under "will never know." (Since his family are among the likely beneficiaries, what are the chances they'll dispute the coroner's findings?)

5. This is so damn typical.....
how many people are so blind as to think that everyone connected to something sinister with a reason to expose it will just suddenly have a heart attack. One of the EASIEST types of deaths to induce.

It is amazing how many rich and powerful guys have been disappearing, found dead, etc. in the last 7 years. Google it.. you will be amazed.

34. It may have been swept under the carpet, but....
there is a very inconvenient lump still there....

Bolivia is getting ready to sue ex-Enron executives over massive fraud. I suspect Bolivia is disappointed that they can't depose Lay, but Cheney might be happy that portions of his energy papers that involved South American natural gas theft will not be exposed. There are lots of dots that Cheney doesn't want connected; Calpine, Enron, Pacific LNG, Schwarzenegger....

Key Lay is was the common thread in this web of deception

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/04/10/eveningnews/main505845.shtml

No autopsy
No bagged hands so they could be tested for gunpowder residue
Shot himself with 'rat shot'? Rat shot: hard to prove what gun it came from and sorta poetic for the guy about to testify on ENRON. Think there was a message there?
Body moved out of car then back into car before pics taken?
Again: NO AUTOPSY although it was required by law.

Rat shot, eh? Who do we know who uses shot and isn't afraid to hit people with it?

Edited on Wed Jul-05-06 12:13 PM by smoogatz
I actually wouldn't be too surprised if he committed suicide, rather than spending the rest of his life in prison. Which would explain why the family pastor jumped in with the "heart attack" story. Of course, it's possible that he might have made certain--demands. His good buddy George W Bush would, of course, have had the power to pardon him, perhaps on his way out of office. Kenny Boy may have petitioned, quietly, for just such a pardon. In exchange for keeping certain things quiet, maybe. Certain *embarrassing* things. But of course, as a mystery writer I tend to think in terms of criminal conspiracies.

44. I thought this earlier today when I heard the news...
Edited on Wed Jul-05-06 07:59 PM by hlthe2b
And I've heard rumblings that if he could fake a heart attack (and there are several drugs that are minimally detectable that would allow him to do so), his estate and life insurance would go to his wife. More importantly, though, I think that probate would allow his estate to go directly to his heirs and could avoid any court-related settlements re: enron.

I'm damned suspicious, that's for sure...

That having been said, the guy was an extremely flawed human being, but I don't think he was a sociopath, unlike Bush* et al. I'm sure he left behind those who truly cared for him. Thus, I can still muster up a bit of sympathy....

33. Since the man was exposed as a criminal he had become a liability
to the Bush gang. They could no longer trust him to remain silent. But now they can. I'm sure they're relieved that he can't talk any more, whatever the cause of death may be.

The CIA has been researching a drug that does cause a heart attack and leaves no trace:

British documentary about the CIA, featuring several former CIA employees
http://youtube.com/watch?v=eKkYVVInRnc
http://youtube.com/profile?user=TheNewPatriot

---

And then there's this judge who died of heart attack on the job while reviewing the case against James Earl Ray, (officially) the killer of MLK:

...
"On March 31st the Judge, who had sentenced him and who had overseen the guilty plea hearings was reviewing the petition for a new trial, had told some people that he was concerned about certain aspects of the case (whether that is serious or not one doesn't know) and he was found in his office dead of a heart attack, with his head on James' motion papers. You can speculate what that means. It may mean nothing. It just may mean that man was under a lot of stress for a lot of different reasons, he had a heart attack and he happened to be reviewing those papers and when he collapsed and the head down it was on James' papers.

But there is a law in Tennessee that says if a judge dies and you make a motion for a new trial and in the course of that motion before ruling on it the judge dies, you get a new trial automatically. There were two people who had filed those motions before Judge Preston Battle. One was James Earl Ray and the other person was the one who got the trial. James didn't..."

From a transcript of a talk by William F. Pepper, attorney of James Earl Ray and of the King family, about his book "An Act of State -
The Execution of Martin Luther King"

Dozens of witnesses contributed to a forceful, detailed case that accused the FBI, the CIA, the U.S. military, the Memphis police, and local and national organized crime leaders. After only an hour of deliberation, the jury found for the King family. The accusers, led by Pepper, cried vindication and fully expected to be at the center of one of the biggest news stories of the century. But the trial and the verdict barely registered in the media.

If there were a "body switch," they'd have to have the medical examiner doing the autopsy and the embalmer/cremator staff of the funeral homes in on it...With regard to the latter, I'd think there'd be local talk... Then again... money $$ talks.
