WOW, we had a heck of a day to commemorate one of the greatest men who ever lived. First we went over to DAR Constitution Hall and saw Al Gore give an awesome speech. He spoke eloquently about the power grab that is going on by the executive (Bush and co.) and the apparent impotance and laziness of congress (both parties) to do anything about it. My pictures suck so I'll use CNN's.
Gore said the use of the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on Americans without a court order shows that President Bush "has been breaking the law repeatedly and persistently."
"A president who breaks the law is a threat to the very structure of our government," he said.

"The disrespect embodied in these apparent mass violations of the law is part of a larger pattern of seeming indifference to the Constitution that is deeply troubling to millions of Americans in both political parties," he said.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/01/16/gore.constitution/Gore called out Congress, he called out the media, he called out you and me, he called out everybody and put us all on notice that the republic is in danger but it can be repaired. He was inspiring and hopeful.
We then went over to the lincoln Memorial.
This has come to be a tradition for us every MLK day and this year was extra special.
As we were getting ready to head out we were walking down the steps and this young man was reciting the entire "I have a dream" speech. His mother was standing off to the side looking extremely proud and nervous and his rendition was a great reminder to everyone gathered of how far we have come and how far we have yet to go.
I went up and thanked him after he gave his speech and I heard his mother tell him as we were walking away, "You see Carlos, they think you did a good job." I couldn't agree more.
