I've written my two senators and my representative. I've submitted a letter to the editor. I taped the speech and handed the tape to someone who was not able to view it today. I emailed the transcript to family members. I posted a link to the transcript on another discussion forum.
Off to write Corporate Media.
Though at some point I suppose I'll have to take a break and feed my children, right?
Edited to add the text of my LTTE submission:
On January 16, Vice President Al Gore delivered the greatest example of oratory in my lifetime. The subject is critical to all Americans. His 5-point bipartisan plan to address the current constitutional crisis includes: - Appointing special counsel to pursue the criminal issues of Presidential warrantless wiretapping of Americans - Whistleblower protection for members of the Executive who report evidence of wrongdoing - Comprehensive legislative hearings into the allegations of the President’s criminal acts. - Refusal to grant an extension and enlargement of the Patriot Act unless it includes adequate and enforceable safeguards protecting the Constitution and rights of Americans. - Telecommunication companies immediately cease and desist providing government access to private information of Americans without a proper warrant
We must endorse and act on this plan. Preserving the integrity of the Constitution benefits all political parties. If we have a fair election process, the majority may become the minority in any election. Would Republicans be comfortable with a Democratic president holding himself above the law?
Mr. Gore gave a voice to my frustration when he said, “Vigilant adherence to the rule of law strengthens our democracy and strengthens America… the people of this nation ultimately determine its course and not executive officials operating in secret without constraint.”
P.S. I'll write the thank you note to Gore this evening. I want to do it by my own hand on stationery. The kids will leave me alone when I'm typing, but not while I'm writing. *shrug*
