These are bad times. I know that the horror is suffocating, as you say, like wet sand.

I keep coming back to a time thirty years ago when I stood under a tree with a rope and thought too much. So much has been beautiful since then.

What kept me alive thirty years ago was thinking of what losing me would mean to my father, who had already lost too much. What keeps me alive now is that I lived.
