No mention of Iraq in Gore fundraising letter for DNC.
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 08:54 PM by Clarkie1
I find that interesting. It's a two page letter asking for contributions to the DNC I just received in the mail today. Have Gore and other Democrats made a conscious decision to stress domestic issues leading up to November, and avoid discussion of Iraq policy? Not an accusation, I'm just wondering. Here is what is mentioned in the letter (in order):

Bush tax cuts for wealthiest Americans
illegal spying
wiping out critical environmental protection laws
Republicans have turned government over to special interests
prices of gas/prescription drug costs
protecting the homeland
responding to natural disasters like Katrina
simply telling the truth
Delay-style corruption scandals

The word "Iraq" does not occur once in the fund-raising letter. So, this leads to a larger question. What issues do you think we should be focusing on leading up to November? I don't think Iraq can be ignored, then again it's true that's something the congress has little influence over, and in the end it's Bush who created the mess and is going to be there until January 09'. Does the fact that Gore does not mention Iraq surprise you, disturb you, not surprise you? Again, this was a 2-page letter from Gore raising money for DNC. Discuss...I'd like to hear what everyone thinks about this.

1. Gore's views are clear, the DNC has a lot more ground to cover
Likely they are still working things out. Imagine getting Biden and Lieberman to agree with Feingold and Kucinich on a DNC Iraq statement, for example.

3. How do Gore's view differ from this?
I heard him on Letterman, and what he said, what the rest of our Democrats said last week in two plans, and what the DNC via Dean put out in this radio address....they all sound like they are coming together pretty well.

Here's the audio and trancript of the DNC radio address. I would imagine Gore's interview is still up at the Letterman site.

7. I meant that Gore has no reticence in mentioning Iraq
Which seemed to be the implication of this thread.

2. They talked about Iraq all last week.
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 09:00 PM by madfloridian
Gore spoke out on Letterman about it, Dean gave a radio address about it, Kerry, Feingold, Murtha, Levin...so many of them spoke out.

And Clark spoke on it also:

8. Yep, most Dems agree......to redeploy troops but not immediatly....
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 10:14 PM by FrenchieCat
Most say as of December 06 or July 07...depending on which plan.

Very few if any say right now!

KING: How do you end Iraq? Do you leave?

GORE: Well, yes, we need to get our troops back...

KING: Now?

GORE: ...as quickly as we can but we have to recognize that however bad I believe the mistake was in invading Iraq under these pretenses that turned out to be based on completely false impressions however big the mistake was in getting there, we now all of us, whether we thought it was wise or not, have a moral obligation to look at the situation as it is and try not to make the mess that's been created worse than it would otherwise be.

And we need to follow twin objectives, get our troops back home as quickly as we can. But secondly, we need to avoid the moral mistake of just getting out in a way that enhances the already high risk of anarchy and/or civil war.

KING: That's a thin line.

GORE: It is a thin line, and I said earlier in the program the unfortunate reality is we do not have good options now. We have to choose among the least bad options.

Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 09:03 PM by globalvillage
Mine mentions mistreating prisoners, torture, OBL, Saddam, Rummy and the 'welcoming with flowers' in Iraq and the price that our troops are paying.
Also domestic issues.
Cool window sticker, too.
I got it today. Different versions? How much money did he ask for, and did it mention Schumer matching $?

edit mine is from the Gore/DSCC.
