You know, the least amount of money you can legally make, if we held our lawmakers to this standard, they'd perish within a month, with their families. They have no fucking idea what it's like to live like a damned slave, with day care, bills, rent, cars, gas, taxes, and all the other indignities of hard work for the least pay.

FUCK these lawmakers telling us we have to work for less than it takes to live. Let them try it for a while.

1. They're making a mockery of the American dream.

Forget about pulling yourself up by the bootstraps. It doesn't matter how hard or how many hours you work, if its minimum wage you still won't be able to survive.

On edit: I've always wondered if that's part of the reason why they hated Clinton so much. He did pull himself up by the bootstraps. He (born poor with a mother who worked in jobs they'd turn their noses up at) invaded their special territory of those who are born to privelege and wealth. He literally didn't know his proper place in society and they attacked.

3. Carter was derided as a "peanut farmer"
One reason I don't pay much mind to the anxious self-policing amongst the left against the merest whiff of denigrating Joe Sixpack. The notion that "liberal elitists" look down their noses at the rabble, while the right doesn't, is bullshit.

2. You are so right
I wonder what the country would be like if we paid our lawmakers minimum wage and there were no lobbyists or others paying them?

In the manner of John Lennon -

Imagine there's no corruption - its impossible to do.....
