MILLENNIUM MAYHEM PART ONE, 999 AD
AT the turn of the first millennium, many Christians thought the world would end. People held a final mass after months of penance and mortification of the flesh.

When the world went on, relieved but sheepish believers came down from the mountain tops where they had awaited the Day of Wrath.

MILLENNIUM MAYHEM PART TWO, DECEMBER 31, 1999
AS the clock ticked into 2000, the developed world waited for computer systems to crash. Doom-mongers predicted everything from home PCs to world financial networks would fail. Millions were spent on Y2K compliance... but the panic was all for nothing.

1. Yes, a lot of this garbage is millennium fever
and it happens to a lesser extent every time a century ticks over.

The problem is that the rapture addled lunatics are walking the halls of power, and we do have the ability to wipe ourselves out this time.

Much of the blame lies with mainstream religious leaders who should have nipped this stuff in the bud decades ago instead of pussyfooting around it to avoid alienating GOP church members.

If these people had been kept on the lunatic fringe where they belong, we could all afford to be much more compassionate to them as the reality that "Left Behind" is fiction sets in.

2. Bush doesn't need the Rapture - He has the Carlyle Group!
IMHO Bush's "religious beliefs" are right up there with 'brush clearing" -- just another marketing tool dreamed up by Karl Rove and Karen Hughes.
