2. Fragging:...... is assissination. WHOW.

......Fragging:

"Frag is a term from the Vietnam War, most commonly meaning to assassinate an unpopular member of one's own fighting unit by dropping a fragmentation grenade into the victim's tent at night. A fragging victim could also be killed by intentional friendly fire during combat. In either case, the death would be blamed on the enemy, and, due to the dead man's unpopularity, no one would contradict the cover story. The intended victim of a fragging was sometimes given warnings, of which the first might be a grenade pin on the sheet of the victim, and later on, a tear gas grenade."

So let's get this right...Spitting on troops= bad. Murdering Veterans of Foreign wars=Good.

I wonder how these same Vietnam Veterans would feel about having a fellow marine fragged by a tall blond haired woman with a big mouth who never experienced the hell of war.

More importantly, why are corporate networks giving this vile woman and her hate speech air time. Since when does our media tolerate and promote murder? Why hasn't the FCC done their job and stepped in? I find this absolutely obscene! There are obscenity laws now.

Latest Ann Coulter Outrage: On Fragging John Murtha

By E&P Staff

Published: June 15, 2006 11:55 PM ET

NEW YORK With the brief debate over Iraq in Congress producing such acrimony this week that one congressman suggested opponents of the war support al-Qaeda, it should come as no surprise that columnist and author Ann Coulter would top them all.

In an email interview with John Hawkins at the Right Wing News web site, Coulter was asked, among other things, to offer short comments on several individuals. After harmlessly dismissing former Ambassador Joseph Wilson as the "World's most intensely private exhibitionist," she said of Rep. John Murtha, the hawkish ex-Marine and now antiwar congressman: "The reason soldiers invented 'fragging.'"

Fragging, which became a well-known expression -- and occurence -- during the Vietnam war, means soldiers attempting to kill their own officers for one reason or another.

This was so over the top that conservative Mike Krempasky at RedState.org posted, "I've said before that's its kind of ironic that just about every phrase Stewie from Family Guy uses to describe Lois could easily be applied to Ann Coulter. Well -- once again, Ann proves us right." He went on to call her "fragging" remark absolutely "disgusting. ... there's no excuse -- NONE -- for the allusion to soldiers who kill other soldiers. It's despicable -- and frankly, so is Coulter."

Newspaper Clients, and Syndicate, Stick With Coulter
Ann Coulter

By Dave Astor and Greg Mitchell

Published: June 16, 2006 1:40 PM ET updated 4:00 PM

NEW YORK Ann Coulter hasn't lost any of her 100-plus newspaper clients, or the support of her syndicate, Universal Press Syndicate, despite her nasty remarks in her new book about 9/11 widows and her comment in an online interview implying that, perhaps, U.S. Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) should be "fragged."

A Universal spokesman said there were no discussions going on there about dropping the columnist.

Why is Coulter keeping all her subscribers? "Ann's client newspapers stick with her because she has a loyal fan base of conservative readers who look forward to reading her columns in their local newspapers," Universal Director of Communications Kathie Kerr said in a statement, after being queried today by E&P.

Kerr added that the syndicate "represents a full spectrum of editorial viewpoints, from very conservative to very liberal writers and cartoonists. Many people enjoy Ann's writing -- after all, her latest book did go to No. 1 on the best seller on Amazon within 48 hours of its publication."

In a phone interview, asked if Coulter's recent remarks went beyond political views to appalling personal remarks or hate speech, Kerr replied: "We've never felt that it is a syndicate's job to censor commentary. It is the nature of commentary that it is to inflame." She said they "leave it to editors" to run or hold certain columns or cartoons, but they are not allowed to edit them.

14. says she has 'joked' about killing oher people.

from the E&P story;

...Reisman added that Coulter "is hardly being condemned by the more prominent righties like Sean Hannity. On the contrary, Hannity has promoted Coulter's book on his Web site. She's gotten a million dollars and counting in free publicity. Hannity, who once called Rall 'mean, cruel, and thoughtless,' evidently feels that Coulter by contrast is a deep thinker who fairly examines the facts and then delivers the truth as she sees it with tender loving care."

Coulter's controversial comment about Murtha came after she was asked at the RightWingNews site to comment on the ex-Marine who now opposes the Iraq War. She said a person like Murtha is "the reason soldiers invented 'fragging'" -- a term describing soldiers killing their own officers, originally in Vietnam.

The Universal columnist has also "joked" about killing other people, including Arabs, Muslims, and U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, and suggested that blowing up The New York Times building might be a good idea, especially if the reporters and editors were still inside.

16. she was (apparently deliberately) misquoted on the site you link to
According to Editor and Publisher and Yahoo news, she said of John Murtha that he was "the reason soldiers invented 'fragging'." This quote, while despicable, is clearly different from "John Murtha should be fragged."

Since they clearly got the story from Editor and Publisher (they link to it in the story) and they quote the yahoo story's explanation of fragging verbatim, it seems clear that they were aware of the original quote and distorted it.

A link to E&P's (more trustworthy) story on the incident: http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_di...

A link to the yahoo story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/20060616/cm_huffpost/0...

The quote is bad enough as is. Presenting made up words as direct quotes just undermines the case against her.

22. It's not semantics.
The story presented it as a direct quote from Ann Coulter, which it isn't.

What she apparently said was: "The reason soldiers invented fragging."

Not: "John Murtha should be fragged."

I think the qoute should be presented in its original form. It's bad enough as it is.

Why did you put the distorted quote in quotes?

All I said was that the site misquoted Ann Coulter, and that this misquote appeared to be deliberate, since the site apparently had access to more reliable sources.

I'm not sure what the "smear" is, since I didn't say anything that isn't factual.

So was the misquote not intentional?

32. They may agree with your interpretation, but they certainly don't support
your quote.

To wit--

Crooks and Liars quotes Ann Coulter as saying of Murtha: "The reason soldiers invented 'fragging.' "

You quote Ann Coulter as saying: "John Murtha should be fragged."

When you put something in quotes, you're implying they are the actual words of the speaker. Either Coulter expressed this heinous sentiment twice, or one of these quotes doesn't use her actual words (and is therefore misquoted).

Interpretation is fine. But what you did was present your interpretation with a direct quote. You pretended that your interpretation of her statement was a direct quote.

That's not really honest, and I pointed out that other sites have quoted her more reliably. I'm sorry if you felt smeared by that.

Feel free to foment outrage. It's a valuable use of your time (and I say that sincerely, not sarcastically). But I think people can be outraged at her real quote and agree with your interpretation. Distorting the quote doesn't serve the cause, in my view.

Hmmm...same meaning but quotes in a title....nice distraction from the main point.

I'm so sorry for the quotes...even though it's the same intent and the same meaning.

It's one of those nuances those Republicans so despise. "let's frag Murtha" is different from "Murtha should be fragged." How?

Is Coulter not really advocating fragging Murtha? Is Coulter not suggesting murder? Is Coulter really advocating kindness and good will?

Ok..so I used the quote incorrectly. I will make sure it doens't happen on my next blog.

I just believe that our argument is best served by presenting the facts as facts, that's all. Quotation marks do make a difference, because they provide the expectation that what is in between those quotes are the actual words of the speaker.

It's one of those nuances those Republicans so despise.

I'm not sure whether this, like your "You go stew. I'll boycott and organize," is meant as a mild rebuke at me, but I will say that the differences between quoting someone and paraphrasing them is not insignificant.

Putting interpretations inside quotes undermines credibility. I don't think it's a small matter, either, because I think undermining credibility works against our argument. Being respectful of that kind of convention and the credibility which it encodes will, in the long run, make for both a more effective argument and a more effective writer.

52. You didn't cite the quote correctly
That you interpreted it correctly is neither here nor there, you made it look like those were her exact words - that's what quotes around a section of words means. Quote correctly is what you are being told here. You are not being told that Coulter is in any way correct, she isn't. She's as vile with one quote as with the other. The difference being that one is an actual quote and one is a quote made up by you.

45. She'll probably rationalize she watched too much Battlestar Galactica...
And that she really meant to say "frack" instead of "frag" which was supposed to mean the "f" word in that series instead of killing someone, if she's confronted with it when she is asked to testify in court about her voting patterns amongst other things.

Frack it!

47. She should date Pat Robertson
He has endorsed offing the president of Venezuela. She wants Murtha killed along with some Supreme Court judges. Sounds like those two kids have a lot in common.

56. Conservatives' track record
*: orders attacks on a sovereign nation for ulterior motives
O'Lie-ly: suggests an attack on a metropolitan area
Coulter: suggests physical harm unto another person

Conservatives are doing a "heck of a job".

58. well, have you noticed Olsen was a beautiful blonde (nice too)
and Coulter is a ugly but some think she's beautiful blonde.

So don't you think the neocons picked them for a reason? I think they didn't realize Coulter would end up being so vile they'd have to toss her.

I bet ya around now, they're wishing they had Olsen.

67. Let me get this straight
John Murtha wants the troops to come home ASAP so that they can no longer be blown to bits and pieces in Iraq, and because of this Ann Coulter feels he should be killed? Do we live in Bizarro World?

And she represents the party who "supports the troops"? If Murtha had his way, the troops would be safe at home with their families..... and Coulter prefers them to be in harms way. Coulter is a vile wench.

Check this out too Kerry and Murtha's response http://www.progressiveu.org/194600-sleezy-republican-pl...

And Cher donated tons of money for new helmets. The media liked to call them 'hollywood libs' so why isn't she being congratulated for that? Instead we hear Coulter?!!!

71. We aren't going to do shit.
Most of Coulter's audience are liberals who enjoy being pissed off. She's irrelevant.

Why does that idiot get so much coverage here, while important news, like the cover-up of superfund sites, sinks like a rock:

Wasn't her quote then something like, "the only question now is whether to impeach or assassinate."
