White House Flying Higher-from the KC Star this morning
Amid good news on many fronts, Bush drops in for a surprise visit to Baghdad and troops.

(And here is the "good" news)

Tuesday news that Karl Rove won't face prosecution lifted a cloud over the White house and gave President Bush another reason to hope his worst days are behind him.

As Bush basked in cheers from US troops in a secret visit to Baghdad, his closest adviser was back at work in the White House free from worry about a possible indictment in the CIA leak case. All in all, it was another good day for the president, who finally has a few reasons to celebrate after a long string of setbacks that battered his popularity.

(the other good news)

Al Zarqawi was killed.

A republican won the June 6 Special Election in San Diego.

Is this not too pathetic for words. We managed to get one terrorist who has since been replaced. But everything else - everything else - is in the tank. And the only other "good" news is that someone didn't get indicted!

For God's sake.

3. The CBS affiliate in KC was showing how * approval was up to 37% now.
in a 42 state poll, apparently Kansas was up 16 points.

8. I saw that, too. Well Kansas will always be Kansas.
If there ever was a red state it was Kansas and will always be so.

4. Btw, that winning Republican's victory is very much in dispute.
Seems that the voting machines weren't secured before the "counting" was done.

Nevertheless, in spite of the fact the vote has not been certified, that Republican was sworn in.

For God's sake, indeed.

5. Are you kiddin' me?
A top aide narrowly misses being indicted. "Honey, great news - Karl slipped out of the noose - he screwed them again".

A quick, secret, ultra high security visit to Iraq so he won't be assasinated by insurgents, where troops get to stay and risk dying while the scum that sent them there flies home before the news of the trip is even out.

This is good news? Get real.

6. The Mighty Wurlitzer Is Playing Full Tilt
What do all these "stories" have in common? They're all superficial, but they "feel good". After months of watching their own party splinter by various side issues and scandal and a depresssing economy and war, the Repugnican noise machine has found its voice again and are ramming through stories like this and has energized its base. While there's no harmony among Repugnicans, they all do have one thing that remains in common...hatred and fear of Democrats and especially the left. They ignore the realities when they can be fed the red meat of lies and distortions that they've come to expect from hate radio and the Repugnican corporate media.

Democratic outrage has also splintered its party as the biggest fights taking place are within the party and the various factions. YearlyKos was as much an attack on the Democrats than it was on Repugnicans and the inability of the party to find one or two issue to stand together on, people are looking for the things that divide. There's a lot of frustration that is now turning inward rather than outward and it's allowing those who want to see Democrats divided plenty of ammo.

The low turn-out of Democrats in the California 50th election and the poor performance of net-root candidates is a wake-up call that Democrats can continue to isolate themselves as to whose "DLC" and who isn't or whose a liberal or progressive...and not look at how this is being played by the corporate media and the Repugnican spin machine.

Every Democrat mis-step will be magnified from now until the election. The RNC has given us a present...they've already rolled out their election memes and are daring Democrats to go after them on their own turf. Time is getting tight...Democrats have to bring this election back to their turf...and focus on a major key issue...be it Iraq or the Economy and stop trying to be everything a Repugnican isn't.

There's a wake-up call being played out there...is anybody listening?

11. Great post !
The Repukes biggest advantage is they hold almost all of the media high ground and can essentially magnify any bit of good news that comes their way and that's exactly what they're doing. On the other hand as you so aptly observed every Demo. loss or mis-step will like wise be magnified. The Bilbray win in San Diego should be a wake up call for D's that this fall is going to be brutal. The Repukes have all the power and most of the money and they don't give a shit about the law or rules or fair play they play to win and all else to them is just so much loser whinning. In a boxing match to beat the Champ a tie isn't good enough. We have to won't to win and be willing to do more then think good polling numbers for a few months mean very much. Bu$hCo is relentlessly pushing forward on it's agenda and frankly I don't see any change in our real position.

7. the dolts would be wise not flaunt Rove's escape from prosecution
--but there has never been a sign of wisdom coming from these slimeballs.
Do they honestly think we believe he's "innocent" of anything?
DOH, jr.! the fact that he "got off" just pisses us off MORE!! it shows us that you continue to get away with continued lawlessness and nose-thumbing at the American peoples' sense of morality and justice.

dumb@$$ greed-head murdering scumballs.

10. News of trillion$ unaccounted for in Iraq and billion$ for Katrina fraud
In light of the recent prime time news stories about the huge amounts of federal dollars mismanaged, stolen and unaccounted for in Iraq and during Katrina relief plus the stock market steep decline, these recent 'good news' events for Bush will give a brief boost to prop up his base that has been in desperate need of something to celebrate in the midst of the massive incompetency that is surely apparent by now to most Americans.
