Save trees! Reduce junk mail. Great resource link
Just found this link and it goes through how and why you receive so much junk mail.

And, most importantly, how to stop it. Definitely worthy of bookmarking.

2. I think companies that send unsolicited mail should be required to
use recycled hemp paper. Make it enviro-friendly but enough of a nuisance that they'll eventually quit with the mailers.

4. And they should pay extra postage
We recycle two or three grocery bags full of paper products every two weeks.

5. You're welcome
I really thought more people would be interested in this based on the complaints about junk mail and CC offers I've seen here. I got off the CC list and my volume of mail has been cut in half by just doing that.

6. Thanks, good link
I own a business and am very careful about protecting people's privacy. My mailing list has nearly 10,000 people on it, but I would never share it with anyone.

I also use email a great deal, instead of regular mail. Its cheaper and makes more sense. Not really hard to do, you just have to make sure you're only sending out information that people want and are interested in.

9. wow
I just can't even imagine. I receive a ton (well, probably around 400 lbs., like you) of junk mail but I never considered weighing it. That is scary.

I used to live in a city (Fargo, ND in the early 90's) that PAID for recycled junk mail -- much like taking in aluminum cans for recycling. Then they stopped, must have been costing too much money.

10. I shred it and put it in with my normal composting material
Probably not the best material but it seems to work fine. Sure makes my Cantaloupes happy.

11. That was quite an experiment
Where did you save it and where did you weigh it?

14. I weighed it on the scales at my warehouse.
I just threw everything into a 4x4 cardboard that was on a pallet. The box and pallet weighed 65 lbs, gross weight was 483 lbs.

15. Well, not all of us have access
to industrial-sized scales. I usually bag up two to three brown grocer bags a week for recycling.

13. Thanks for this link. Have bookmarked it so I can go over the
things I need to do to stop it. Along the same lines, are you all getting calls from solicitors (especially mortgage cos) even though you're on the list? My phone has been ringing off the hook for about a month now and when the machine answers, they hang up. I answered one day and told them I was going to report them and they said "you go right ahead". Well, when I went to the gov website for the do not all list, the first thing they asked for was the phone number of the company, and these companies aren't giving you their phone numbers. Anybody know how to properly report these people?
