Maybe some good new on Ben -
The Steelers handed out the following statement to reporters today:

"On behalf of everyone within the Steelers organization, I want to express my concern for Ben Roethlisberger.

"I am sure Ben knows that we are praying for his complete recovery.

"So far we have been encouraged by the early reports from the medical team at Mercy Hospital.

"Our public relations staff will pass along any additional updates as we receive them from the hospital."

So - hopefully he pulls through and maybe plays again.

1. He was talking to docs before surgery -
Edited on Mon Jun-12-06 05:13 PM by sparosnare
and his family and friends are there. Also, the knee injuries aren't serious (read that earlier):

KDKA has learned his mother, father, sister and a former coach are at the hospital with him.

Steelers Charlie Batch and Mike Logan both arrived at Mercy Hospital this afternoon after getting word that Roethlisberger's motorcycle collided with a car near the 10th Street Bridge this morning.

The Super Bowl XL winning quarterback is listed in serious but stable condition at Mercy Hospital.

According to the hospital's director of trauma, Dr. Larry Jones, Roethlisberger was talking with doctors before he was taken into surgery this afternoon.

3. He has a broken jaw?
He'll play again. One side effect is that he will lose weight and probably won't play in the season opener or the next two or three games after that, but he will play again. I had a broken jaw several years ago and recovered, although I'm not an NFL player. And some say that my injury was the jawbone of an ass, but that's another story for another time. Anyway, here's wishing Roethlisberger well, even though I'm a Packer fan. Been watching Big Ben since college and had a feeling he was going to be a good one.

5. I don't see him playing this season.
His jaw will probably be wired.......I heard both knees took hits as well.

He really does behave like a 24 year old.

11. He sure did behave like a 24 year old kid.
On the other hand, they won the super bowl, largely cause of that kids play.

But yes, he sure is just a kid.

Dumb kid, too.

Almost family.......:pals:

I do know this....Pittsburgh is a great place to get well. A "Top-Notch Leader" in health care wisdom. I prefer Presby but Mercy is fine too.

7. I hope so.
You know, I have always enjoyed watching good qbs play - even Farve.

And Montana - You know - teams I didn't like.

But this kid - rookie season goes 15-1 and the next year, he wins the super bowl. It was really someting. Dare I say it, he may have been better than even Bradshaw.

Of course he will be back. Theres three more months until the real season; I think he will return better than ever.

This is the way it goes for all my team rivals, so I know he will be fine, out of nothing if not spite.

14. Cool.
"Go big Ben"

I will be quoting you madokie. Great quote.

I think he is tough and focused too.

I'd sure bet on him before I'd ever bet on this president!!!

Not political - I just think Ben is a lot stronger.

Or maybe it is a little bit political - since W basically screwed the people in Steeler town.

13. I think that is what is important.
We all need to send good vibes - and that is really all we can do.

Such a nice young kid - he deserves that.

17. It is one of those things, I think.
It doesn't matter where you are from - even Cleveland (haha).

You look at the Steelers, they are what is left of blue collar america - what family is supposed to mean. They were a real family. They still are.

I grew up in the Ohio river valley. I know what family is supposed to mean, so do you.

I think we all do.

This is more symbolic than I have words for. COME ON BEN!!!

We lived thru 2000 and then 2002 and then died in 2004 - but there were the Steelers, reminding us of our roots.

12. Don't have a link for this -
but the Steelers front office is saying they're "cautiously optimistic" about Ben. He knew what had happened to him and was coherent before surgery.

My mom gave me the info; she's watching local news. :hi:
