1. dkos sucks
Reading dKos is like judging an essay contest on why we should save the whales by a bunch of overeager Montessouri students.

DU is the place for breaking news.

2. DU is the place for breaking news but
I love dKos. There are some great diaries.

On the other hand I started out on dKos but after the 2004 election I was needing a place that was talking about the discrepancies, not encouraged there. (Georgia10 ended up doing some great work on it there though)

My son told me about DU then and so I came here and love it here too.

I wouldn't want to do without either of them.

4. I like it here better than anywhere else, but Kos is good, too.
It's not a competition...we are working together to make our country good again. Don't divide dems by dissing other left-leaning sites.

Peace

8. In the great tradition of the Brits in Belfast - divide & disrupt
First of all, I checked out your links and saw NOTHING comparing or contrasting KOS with DU. I didn't even see a mention of DU. Please quote whatever you're relying on for the headline of your thread.

Secondly, I just returned from a visit to Belfast, Northern Ireland where I saw the horrible walls still dividing that city, and all the murals mourning the dead of both sides - and you know what, it was the Irish working classes, both Protestant and Catholic, who suffered from that sectarian fight, and the British working classes who were in the military there. It also reminded me of the practise of that great philanthropist (sarcasm) Andrew Carnegie in the Pittsburgh mills, of placing immigrants so that none of them worked next to someone who spoke the same language - to keep them from sharing common interests and, god forbid, organizing.

DU is not about ridiculing or competing with other liberal Dems. You got that?

14. Drudge is unreadable, and The PBP doesn't mention DU.
What up, Biernuts?

I've never a sloppier front page than Drudge, or a more boorish bunch of dolts than the posers at the Palm Beach Post.

17. It was the photo - and the dream
When I woke up Saturday, my SO asked if I had slept well. My response was that I thought so because there was a dream just before waking about "Swinging away" and it was sticking in my head as dreams sometimes do. I then went into a tailspin for about 3 hours trying to remember where I had heard "swing away" before. Finally googled "swing away" and "quote" which brought up a page from a movie database: <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286106/quotes>

That jogged the old memory that it was from the 2002 "Signs" which I hadn't thought was so good but grossed almost $228M after cosing $70.2M to produce.

I hadn't seen it in the theater but had the DVD and broke it out to replay the "swing away" scene where Gibson's brother beats the shit out the alien trying to kill Gibson's son. On the wat to that scene, I passed the one with the tin foil on their heads to keep the aliens from reading their minds. When I saw the picture today with the kos convention attendees with the same style - it impressed me as much as the movie and I thought "just what we need - that will win a lot of votes, not!" After MarKos sounded fine with Russert, the contrast of his TV appearance with the convention appearance got the better of me, just this once.

26. It's important to read more than just the views you agree with
If you don't monitor the opposition, you don't know when to fight back. Success requires being at the decisive time and place to make the difference. And if General Washington wasn't also an accomplished spymaster, we might all be speaking English!

2nd point - are we the party of censorship or the one that fights for the rights of even the ideas we detest. Didn't the ACLU fight for the Nazi's right in Skokie?

29. Smudge isn't the opposition, he's a fiction writer and a bad one
at that.

Avoiding unreliable sources isn't censorship, it's discrimination in the best sense of the word.

20. Let's not have a division, if we can help it
We are all part of the populist movement that has the potential to change the DC Democratic establishment. Currently, more than any other movement (i.e., third party options), IMHO, this has the chance to make a difference in uprooting the Republican majority. Markos and Jerome have written about this -- and right now, they are the ones putting it out there, getting the publicity. We should be celebrating them, not knocking them, regardless how we feel about their site. But, isn't that so like us to eat our own? (Which, ironically, is discussed in similar ways in their book, Crashing the Gate.)

This is not a competition between DU and Kos or any other liberal blog sites. If we make it out as that, we are sure to divide our efforts, which is exactly what Republicans and the DC Democratic establishment want. Let's not help them by inane posts about which is 'better'. It's all good.

Of course Drudge put that one picture on their website. Does that not help divide and ridicule us all? If that had been a DU Convention, a similarly ridiculous picture taken out of context would have been pasted on Drudge, so your reference is inconsequential -- But, you fell for it -- that tired trick of allowing the Drudge's and Rush's to define us liberals and our movement for us.

My suggestion, before you continue with these derisive posts, read Crashing the Gate and Sirota's new book, Hostile Takeover: How Big Money and Corruption Conquered Our Government -- And How We Take it Back. Get a handle on how our efforts in the online progressive movement can work together to usurp the power of the establishment, and attempt to give the voice back to the people. And, take note that Markos and Jerome mentioned DU at least three times in their book, all favorable mentions, btw.

Threads that seem to cause division between Progressive sites are not much tolerated here. (especially when they point to a winger site)

Kos is the first blog I read in the morning, and the last blog I read at night. DU is where I hang out with like-minded, intelligent, beautiful, insightful, gracious, motivating and aware Progressives! Gosh, I'm glad yall are just like me!!

28. "We're Number 1" coming from someone...
...with a Grand Total of 21 posts (when the OP was made). I know that my own post count isn't very high, but then, I'm not using "we" when speaking of the denizens of this most excellent resource. And *neither* of those links mention DU at all...the "photo on Smudge" must have been replaced by something else, because there's nothing there related to this topic, and the PBP link is to a blog entry mentioning the *satirical* tinfoil hat contest that someone started at YearlyKOS...poking fun at themselves...so...what's the point, here?
