That was before Mike came to Air America. I'm listening to a show from October 2003. Mike was just as savvy back then as he is now. Just thought I'd post this in case anyone is missing their dose of Malloy.

1. I started listening to Malloy three weeks before ieAmerica went under

so I've always felt a little responsible, LOL. Needless to say, I was estatic when AirAm radio picked him up!

2. I accidently found him when he was at WLS in Chicago

That's a powerful station that can be heard in OK and elsewhere after dusk. People called in from many states; often people who were driving through called in on cell phones. The wide listening range he had then is a major argument for why liberals talk shows MUST get on some major radio stations; many people heard him then who would never find him on the internet.

Malloy was the no 1 show in his time slot in Chicago; nevertheless, he was fired b/c he was 'too edgy, too controversial for Chicago.' He was kicked off the air before the 2000 selection; I find and found the timing extremely suspicious.

I first heard of depleted uranium on his show; he had leaders of the picketing of the School of the Americas on his show; etc, etc, etc,.....

The Kosovo action was a very interesting period for Malloy and his listeners; most of his audience supported the action but Malloy was vehemently opposed. It made for some very interesting conversations.

3. I didn't find out about Mike until ieamerica

I was hooked by Mike's rage and logic. Ieamerica also carried a host of shows that have been my staple for the last few years. Since benburch is the host of whiterose, I call on all DU'rs to support him any way you can. I also hope you learn the history of the white rose and understand it's relevance today.

5. WLS Chicago

I heard the beatles when they came out in 63 for the first time on WLS way back when they had the silver dollar survey . This was so long ago tht thinking to that time really makes today seem that much worse .

I would have thought that chicagoland would have welcomed Mikes sarcastic manner .

I did'nt hear Mike until he can to AAR . I do go back to catch up by listening to the achives on the white rose site .

I went back to 11/3/04 to hear what Mike had to say about the 04 election theft . He was pretty pissed that night but it echoed what I felt . Mike talked alot about diebold and the other three machine companies and he felt these must go if we are ever to have a chance to win back the dems place in the whitehouse and other seats . This still holds true today .

White rose is very much like a audio history book with the archives and it is a fantastic way to catch up or compare resent history .

I run a long lead from my computer into the bedroom , stick the earbuds in and listen to archives at night since I can't sleep most of the time .

And remembering those days DOES make it all seem so much sadder somehow.

Doubt it had to much to do with Chicagoland - these decisions are made by a bunch of
corporate A**h**ES who are only thinking of the dollar. The bigger the radio market -
the worse the straight and narrow. Just moved out of the San Francisco bay area - and find
the radio out here in the country to be so much more open in terms of various genres that are
played - it's too small a market for anyone to be tightly controlling it yet.

7. Yes it does take me back

I goggled WLS and WCFL and took a look at the old surveys to try to remember what songs and groups were popular since it's been so long I have forgot alot of the names . If that was not enough to depress me nothing will . It was sure fun while it lasted and looking back on the archives and music surveys was fun until it ended and I remembered it was now 2006 . Good thing i quite drinking . I learned to play guitar waiting for songs to come on the air since records even though cheap were a bit out of my range back then . This was before fm radio existed let alone stereo , then underground FM came on with complete album airplay .

Oh , well , the good old days now I'm old .

8. I love hearing those old shows

Sometimes when Mike's out sick, or on vacation; I fire up the archives and listen what happened a few years ago. Except for some different music (and some bad commercials!), he was exactly the same then as he is now.

Too bad Ben's archives only go back to April 21, 2003 (though even that's amazing!). I would have loved to hear what Mike said right after the Iraq war started in mid-March 2003.

9. I'm mid-west truck driver. I been listening to him since WLS. You

should of have heard him through Clinton's impeachment fiasco. He was the only thing that helped me keep my sanity.

11. DUers need to support

WhiteRoseSociety. Since AAR came back 2 SoCal, the programming sucks! Mike has been moved 2 midnight - Marc Maron is on @ Mike's old time of 10 - but w/ Mike starting @ midnight, the last hour of the show is cut 2 pick up Mark Riley beginning @ 2A. I go 2 WRS 2 hear the last hour when I get up the next morning. They started cutting the last hour when there were only about 5 nights left of 1984! I know KTLK is a clear channel station and I suspect their crap programming is deliberate.

Mikes show is midnight to 2 am and before this is Mark Maron . Marks morning sedition was a great funny show and I'll never understand why on earth they dismantled that show . I like Mark but he seems to be struggling with this new format .

13. I use to have some audio cassettes of Mike's show on WLS. Not

sure where they went, but it was during Clinton's impeachment. I wish I could get some mp3's of Malloy's show from back then..
