PBS on the Chopping Block Again - True Majority ACTION >>>>
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 10:01 AM by helderheid
As Iraq and Afghanistan grow ever more dangerous for our troops, as the still un-rebuilt Gulf Coast faces another hurricane season, as our federal deficit and the price of oil both spiral out of control, Congress spends its time –- trying to kill Big Bird and Elmo.

On June 7, a subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee approved a bill that would cut funding for the Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio by $115 million per year – 23 percent of total funding.1

To urge your Congressional representative to vote against cutting funds for America’s public broadcasting networks, visit the following site to take action:

http://action.truemajority.org/campaign/sesamestreet

Even Oscar the Grouch knows the quality programming PBS has provided over the years, from “Sesame Street” to “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” has helped start countless Americans on the road to literacy and a love of learning.

If passed, these cuts would represent the most extreme budget reduction since the Corporation for Public Broadcasting was formed in 1967. A similar attempt to cut CPB’s budget was stopped by citizens outrage just one year ago.2 Congress needs to hear from us once and for all that public broadcasting is something the public supports!

Thanks for helping America keep its priorities straight,

Matt Holland

Here's the message we'll send to your member of Congress:

Dear Representatives,

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and its arms - National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS)- provide information, education and entertainment that reflect the best of America's values.

Americans have shown repeatedly that we support the mission of the CPB. Congress should continue fiscal support for CPB, PBS and NPR at current levels.

I urge you to vote against any measures that would reduce funding for public broadcasting in this country.

7. We want our PBS!
They can have their MTV, I really am tiring of these guys gutting everything which is beneficial and then turning around to put the savings into defense programs benefiting their cronie's bottom lines.

15. Here we go again.
Stupid repukes. This is part and parcel of the shameful sham push to energize their base, and has no chance. Last time they tried to cut funding something like 70 repukes voted against it. It'll be no different this time. It's not even a real effort. They know it's a loser.
