Harris: Lack of support because I can't be controlled

Brian Skoloff
The Associated Press
Posted June 5 2006

WEST PALM BEACH -- Katherine Harris thinks she knows why she's been shunned by her party leadership and shirked by big donors, and it has nothing to do with political platforms. "Perhaps in some elite circles, the reason I have not gotten more support...is because they don't believe I can be controlled," Harris said today during a speech to the nonpartisan Forum Club of the Palm Beaches.
Harris, a two-term congresswoman who as secretary of state gained national notoriety for her role in the 2000 presidential recount that handed the race to George W. Bush, said she would not "kowtow" to the administration or her party.

"I will be beholden to no one but the people, not the party elite, not the press and certainly not even doing what's popular," said Harris, who is seeking the Republican nomination to run against Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson. "I'm going to be doing what's right. "I'm not part of that club," she said, referring to what she called "the Beltway boys." Harris' campaign has been dogged by staff turnovers and fundraising problems. She was criticized for accepting a $32,000 illegal contribution from defense contractor Mitchell Wade, who pleaded guilty to bribing former U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, R-Calif.

Gov. Jeb Bush has publicly said he didn't think she could beat the incumbent, and even tried to convince House Speaker Allan Bense to enter the race for the Republican nomination but he declined.
"When he (the governor) weighed in on the race, I think it hurt her significantly," U.S. Rep. Mark Foley said after Harris' speech. "She's had a lot of distractions thrown her way and she's persevered, so I give her a lot of credit." Three relative unknowns have since filed to run for the nomination: LeRoy Collins Jr., son of former Florida Gov. LeRoy Collins; Peter Monroe, a Pinellas County developer who helped manage the government's savings and loan bailout; and Windermere lawyer William "Will" McBride. But even without her party leadership's support, Harris has pressed on, announcing she would spend $10 million of her own money on the campaign when fundraising lagged.

Asked how she felt about the governor's cold shoulder, she shrugged and said, "He had a friend that he wanted to run." "But I'm in the race and I'm hopeful that the governor will be supportive, confident that down the road he shall be," Harris said. The governor's office referred questions to the Republican Party of Florida. Party spokesman Jeff Sadosky echoed the governor's previous comments that Harris has spent too much of her campaign focusing on herself and not enough on the issues and Nelson's voting record.

2. Wow! Is she ever in denial!
I guess she thought the Bushes would kiss her ass after helping that family cheat its way into the WH.

3. Wonder is "Hysterica Harris" is sending a shot over the Bush bow...
...maybe she's hinting that since the Bush and their "Party Elite" aren't supporting her, she isn't on-board anymore.

Perhaps Harris wants them to know that she know what happened in Florida in 2000 (because she was their "election agent provocateur") and they should tread "vwery, vwery carefully" with her.

7. The only way she can get back at the Monkey crew is to confess to her OWN
sins re: FL2000. Unless she gets immunity, that ain't happening. They have her over a barrel.

Her "reward" for her betrayal of the people she pretends to want to represent was a seat in the House. By daring to try to go for the more prestigious Senate, she's pissed them off because she doesn't have broad appeal simply because she's a blooming nitwit.

That "can't be controlled" line is bullshit. Funny bullshit, but bullshit. If they were backing her to the hilt you'd swear she had a radio antennae sticking out of her head, and could be remote controlled like a kid's radio car!

They need every dime they can muster to toss at their candidates in competitive races. Giving any money to her is like flushing it down the toilet.

8. This is just getting to be kinda SAD, innit?
Kathy is like a not-very-bright whore who
is SLOWLY realizing that she's not welcome to stay for breakfast.

She serviced the GOP, they paid her for it,
and now it's time for her to put some clothes on and go away.

The money on the dresser should have tipped her off
that there was no engagement ring on the agenda.

10. This does remind me of the Chappelle Show
Dave was doing a "how it would be if movies were really like life" skit. They did the scene from Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts describes her hopes and dreams to Richard Gere, but instead of being impressed by the hooker's humanity, in the Chappelle version, he tells her the date's over and it's time for her to fucking leave.

Cruella just doesn't accept that she's yesterday's cum-filled tissue to the Bush clan. "But I thought we meant something to each other!" Yeah sure, baby. There's an extra ten in it if you get out of here before I open my eyes again.

12. Before the Guys in White Coats come and take her away .....
She needs to spill the beans on Jeb and his henchmen, and how they stole the Florida election for George Bush.

IF she does not put some of the confidential information out there, she could just disappear .....
like so many others who fly on small private planes.
