Poll question: Why did *you* get married?
If gay marriage is such a threat to our country(:sarcasm:), I was wondering what some of the reasons are people recognized in heterosexual civil unions had to "get hitched".

8. It was an act of gallantry - to save my wife from marauding lesbians
We heard there was a plot to prop a ladder against her window in the middle of the night and steal her away and hypnotize her into becoming a lesbian.

13. As long as they are consenting adults
my husband, a recovering Catholic, and I, a lapsed Lutheran, got married in a UU church because that was the only way we could have a spiritual ceremony. We didn't want a civil service. A lot of people find out about UUism through their marriage policy.

Joe Namath popcorn makers. It was pretty good and lasted for many years. Our marriage has lasted 25 years.

Ours was colored burnt orange with a black base. It's made by West Bend and works well.

26. After 2 previous marriages, and 1 year of practice, why not?
We got the chaplain at the hospital where my wife worked to do the deed. That was 25 years ago, June 1st. Despite all the assaults by horrible gays, including her sister, and my former boss. Note: My wife's sister has been with her partner for something like 35 years.

31. Other
INS would have thrown my (at that time future) husband out of the country. If I had gone to his it would have been the same thing. So rather than cause an international incident, we got married.

34. For a house!
We wanted to move in together. We found the greatest rental property-a Reconstruction era Quaker schoolhouse. The elderly owners/landlords assumed we were married. We didn't want to lie, so later that week we got married at the Courthouse. That was 1984. We have moved several times since then and remain happily married.

39. The real estate agent tricked me into it
He told me homeownership was easier if one had a wife to help hold down the fort. Little did I know the reverse was true and the guy was just trying to sell me something. Thank goodness my wife saw through the whole thing and still let me marry her :silly:
