I already know what Capt. Codpiece will say. What I'm really interested in is whether the Democratic Party leaders will let him have it with both barrels or are they going to play along with this bullshit to appease the 700 Club crowd? That's the question all of us should be asking right now and the one I want answered.

6. Oh I'm sure it will be
CNN never misses an opportunity to broadcast a Bush Blab. Not to mention FOX -- though I never watch FOX, so that's an assumption. If they DON"T broadcast it you know something fishy is going on.

Anyway, Bush is set to make his little speech at 1:45 EST.

10. What about this from Ted Kennedy?
"A vote for this amendment is a vote for bigotry pure and simple," said Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, where the state Supreme Court legalized gay marriages in 2003.

13. From the DNC-
Dean: Stop Using Marriage to Pander to Base, Deflect from Failed Leadership
June 5, 2006
Email this Print this Blog this
Facing crumbling credibility even among their conservative political base, President Bush publicly endorsed a divisive anti-marriage constitutional amendment to be introduced this week by Republican Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist that would legislate discrimination into the Constitution.

The President's endorsement of the amendment comes on the same day as a new Gallup poll that shows the American people want Congress and the Republicans in Washington to focus on real issues like Iraq, immigration, health care, energy costs, the economy, the war on terrorism and education. But, instead of addressing these issues, Washington Republicans have once again ripped a page from the Karl Rove playbook by using marriage as a wedge issue to win elections by dividing Americans.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement calling on President Bush and the Republicans in Washington to stop using marriage as a wedge issue to pander to extremists in their political base and distract the American people from Republicans’ failed leadership:

“Republicans in Washington clearly need a reality check. The American people are deeply concerned about the failure of Republicans to address critical issues like sky-high gas prices, millions of uninsured Americans, an intractable war in Iraq, out of control budget deficits, cuts to student loan programs, and a widespread Republican culture of corruption. Yet, instead of spending the Senate’s time on the priorities of the American people, President Bush and Bush Republicans like Senator Frist are pushing a divisive Constitutional amendment that uses marriage as a political wedge issue. This is morally wrong. It hurts LGBT Americans, and it hurts our country

“President Bush is wrong to target LGBT Americans to rally his political base and distract from the disastrous impact his failed leadership has had on the economic and health care security of American families. The American people know that this amendment won't help a single American find health insurance, create a single job, help a single student go to college, or help come up with a plan for success in Iraq. Instead of putting their political interests ahead of the nation’s interest, the time has come for the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress to get to work on the issues that really matter to Americans.”

It's about damned time, too. Almost washes the bitter taste of that 700 Club fest out of my mouth. I am now cautiously optimistic that he won't be doing THAT again anytime soon.

15. You're welcome. More- from Harry Reid
an e-mail

Dear xxxxxx,

Each week, Senator Frist and the Republican Leadership make choices about the Senate agenda. They could focus our work on record high gas prices, the war in Iraq, or skyrocketing health care costs.

But there's an ugly truth: it's election season and down-in-the-polls Republicans are turning to their same old playbook - fear and division. Next week, Bill Frist, in an attempt to appease extreme right wing elements of the Republican Party, has promised that the Senate will vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment and attempt to write discrimination into the Constitution for the first time in 230 years.

Join me in telling Senator Frist, "The Senate should be working on real issues - not writing discrimination into the Constitution" by visiting the DSCC's website:

http://www.dscc.org/realissues

This divisive and unnecessary amendment that would undermine the Constitution has overwhelmingly failed each time the Senate has voted on it. We don't need another Terri Schiavo moment where we spend valuable time away from the important work that needs to be done. Now, more than ever, it's time to focus on security, solutions for the high cost of healthcare and gas prices.

But you know Bill Frist and the Republican Leadership can't be trusted to address real issues. After all, Senate Republicans and their big oil friends have forced more than ten votes to drill for oil in ANWR, but not a single vote to lower gas prices. They spent months trying to privatize Social Security, but Bill Frist can't find room in the schedule to raise the minimum wage or provide funding for Stem Cell research.

We need a President and a Congress that doesn't play divisive politics. At a time of war, Republicans should unite the country and focus on the real issues, not divide and undermine its founding principles.

Thank you,

Harry Reid
