If the citizenry of Haiditha is sitting idly by while a terrorist element in their midst is killing American soldiers and the citizens do nothing about it then they are no better than the people of Dresden and they deserve the same fate.

11. Gee. It would seem to me that the US soldiers might appear to be the

invaders to many of the Iraqi citizens..... DUH! Who started out doing more damage to the people and the infrastructure of the country, and not repairing any of the damage they did?

As was the bombing of civilian targets anywhere, by anyone, during war. Whether, Rotterdam, Conventry, Hamburg, or Hirishima.

When the insurgents in Iraq blow up civilians, it's a war crime. When the Marines murder civilians it's a war crime.

Dresden was generally acknowledged as an atrocity by historians.
It was, of course, a "payback" by the Brits in retaliation for the bombings of London during the Battle of Britain.

I'm not sure why this Freep thinks that it was done to rout out some kind of terrorists though. The fire bombing of Dresden was designed to kill civilians in the same way the Luftwaffe randomly killed Londoners.
At that point in the war, strategic bombing was still considered barbaric.

Churchill's lucky we won the war.
