Poll question: Is this our business?
There is a thread with over 100 posts about where Laura Bush is or isn't living and what is going on with their marriage. Do people really think this is anyone's business?

2. GOP spent how many millions snooping on Clinton?
While I don't especially think private acts are public, humor and venting are healthy. The GOP put sex lives on the public table. We are just serving up their just desserts for that ;)

4. I Agree With You
The GOP has made "sex" and "marriage" and "family values" THE issue. So what the leader of the GOP damn sure is our business. This "Do as I say not as I do" can't be allowed.

35. Well. Now that you put it that way...
You are right. BushCo slammed Clinton when they said they were going to bring honor and dignity back to the WH... and they have made the whole sanctity of marriage and family values deal a mainstay of their platform.

They deserve what they get. Yep. I may have just changed my mind... this IS our business!

Thanks, abluelady!

When you are in public office or just 'in the public' your life is fair game. It's part of the price you have to pay, fortunately or unfortunately.

6. The Decider makes his decisions from his gut
He appears to use no process, no study, and no precedent in his decidering.

It stands to reason that it's important to know what is going on in his gut to get an idea about what he's going to decide next.

I don't care to know what his favorite color is, but I do care to know whether he is highly distracted by inner turmoil, since one of his bad moods today might lead to a foreign war tomorrow.

11. better answer: I don't really care, personally, but republicans have not
hesitated in "taking it to the mattresses", so I don't know why it should be an issue for democrats ONLY.

Good for the goose, good for the gander, if they want to impeach because of a blue-stained dress, I don't understand why it's off limits for democrats to have the same scrutiny of republicans.

but as for me, I didn't really care if Clinton got a blowjob from the swedish bikini team every thursday, I wasn't voting for his celibacy or his marital fidelity.

I don't care, but I'm also not down on people who want to make it their business.

12. I reject the premise of the survey.
While public figures are entitled to some privacy, matters which affect the mental stability of our Commander in Chief are absolutely our business, especially when he's prone to act in spite of public opinion anyway. He's not just holding the highest elected (yeah, I know) position in our government, but he has the power to start wars, thanks to Congress, and has shown that he will lie to all of us to do so. Marital problems don't turn off when you clock in for work. They affect you and your decision-making the entire time you're experiencing them.

Is it our business what happens in their personal life after 2008? No. Was it our business before 2000? No. However, it absolutely IS our business now, and your survey oversimplifies the reality.

14. Keep MY mouth shut? Never.
I will forever scream from the rooftops and call those in power on their hypocrisy. On top of the obvious evils of the Bush Administration, his shrinking base needs to be aware of the fact that he doesn't stand for what they do. Clinton was raked over the coals; the Bush family is fair game. There is little to no humanity to these people and if we want to vent, speculate, poke fun and point fingers back at these caricatures, it's our right to do so.

PS- I'm probably responsible for half the responses in that thread, and it's the most fun I've had all day.

Clinton's sexcapades were none of our business either. He should have refused to talk about it. He was busted for lying, not cheating.

I'll not condemn anyone for poking their nose in W's business, and he has the GOP to thank for that.

36. Where's The "Who Gives A Shit. Let Em Talk About It If They Want" Option?
Who really cares if it is or isn't anyone's business. It is fascinating story regardless, and if DU'ers want to speculate and talk about it then who really gives a frog's fat ass? It isn't a matter of being their business, it is merely a matter of whether they find the topic interesting enough to discuss. Since they do, then let em. Just don't read the threads if you don't care. No harm to anyone.

We should be able to scrutinize EVERY private aspect of Bushler's life. Their most private secrets should be made public and held against them in the court of public opinion and then in Congress.

After all, THEY are spying on OUR private lives!

40. It's no different than any other "celebrity" gossip
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 09:42 PM by conflictgirl
I mean, if this were a site focused largely on hatred of Jessica Simpson, a good number of people would've been gleefully discussing her fights with her husband and their later divorce.

I personally don't care either way about this story, though it wouldn't surprise me if Smirky and Pickles have a sham marriage since everything else about the man seems to be a sham too.

It probably isn't our business, but interest in gossip has existed as long as there have been societies. With the celebrity gossip being such a big pastime now, why should the president be exempt?

They are RELYING ON HER PERSONALITY AND STANCE AS A CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN WITH MORAL VALUES.

If she becomes ANOTHER referrendum on Bush's LACK OF MORALITY, then I say HELL YES, her personal life is FAIR GAME.
