Did anybody watch Charlie Gibson last night on ABC news?
I admit it, I like him. I always thought he was kind of left leaning, but last night during the segment about reduction in Homeland Security monies for NYC and DC (because, get this, there are no icons or monuments to protect in those two cities) he seemed to exude disgust at the decision.

Is he a leftie, or a rightie? Does anyone have an opinion on that?

2. That's what I thought. He was very subtle about it, but
the look on his face last night when he was reporting that story along with his tone just dripped with contempt.

3. The info out today about "NY faxed its application" is just...
I mean how instead of electronic submission they faxed it and that's wrong and helped dock them MILLIONS in aid... like... uh.

I know Bush wasn't popular there before, but something like that can create outright open, lasting hatred, because it's petty to the extreme, it threatens to cost actual lives, and it's an insult to human intelligence. I think people are turning against this regardless of the political spectrum. Sorry that isn't answering your question but, thought I'd mention.

5. Can you point me to that link?
I have two brothers who live in NYC and of course, I would like to see them protected as much as any other city.

Interesting how the monies are going to red states.

4. He's on their 7 figure payroll. He'll say what they want him to say.
He doesn't have raging facial syphilis sores, but he's still a whore.

6. Why do you feel that way?
I have watched him for a long time and I have always felt he leaned left. I think he is very professional, a la Peter Jennings, but I do recognize that he is doing a job.

7. He's no friend of mine. Claimed dimson won one of the '04 debates,
and more (from Media Matters):

Debate moderator Charlie Gibson on Bush: "ies go to the president"

On ABC's Good Morning America on October 11, Diane Sawyer asked her co-anchor Charlie Gibson, moderator of the second presidential debate, about the point during that debate in which President George W. Bush repeatedly interrupted Gibson. Sawyer asked, "A lot of people were asking about the moment, the president did seem very aggressive and coming at you a little bit to get his point across. Did it feel that way?" Gibson replied, "Well, ties go to the president. He was going to make his point, and so you have to back off and let him."

From the exchange during the October 8 debate (video here):

GIBSON: Mr. President, let's extend for a minute --

BUSH: Let me just -- I've got to answer this.

GIBSON: Exactly. And with reservists being held on duty --

BUSH: Let me answer what he just said, about around the world.

GIBSON: Well, I want to get into the issue of the back-door draft --

BUSH: You tell Tony Blair we're going alone.

9. I just cannot see him as a serious news anchor.
Maybe I could tolerate him if he did some sort of show like Charles Kuralt's On the Road. Maybe.

10. I'm curious why you feel that way.
Like I said, I like him. I listen to the news both local and national after working and while making dinner.

I think ABC is the least offensive and have thought that almost my entire life.

One of the things I like best about him is he didn't use GMA as a forum to discuss his personal life ad nauseam. Unlike some others on that show.

13. I have been watching the first few minutes of GMA for a while,
just long enough to catch the top headlines of the day. I don't really care for Charlie or Diane and it is excruciating to sit through their intro chit-chat until they get to the news headlines. Charlie just seems to be so "aw shucks, gosh, golly"; I find it annoying. Of course, that's my problem with morning "news" shows in general. They put on their sad faces to talk about a plane crash and then 5 minutes later they're giggling about Tom Cruise. It's offensive.

11. He hated John Kerry. He looked physically disgusted interviewing him

and dogged him about the "merits" of his three purple hearts, and whether or not he threw them in a demonstration. For what I remember, Gibson used every single Republican talking point fed to him. He may just be clueless, who knows.

12. I remember that.
But, he wouldn't be the only leftie who wasn't a big fan of Kerry. He wasn't my first choice, but once he became the candidate, I supported him wholeheartedly.

17. I used to watch ABC news for Jennings
And hated it when CG substituted. He seems right-leaning to me, particularly b/c of his attitude toward others ... always interrupting and seems more interested in getting them to say what he wants them to than in hearing what they have to contribute to the issue.

Maybe just a personal bias, but I've stopped watching ABC altogether now.

18. He lives in the area and probably lost friends during 9/11.
I believes he lives in Summit, NJ which is a bedroom community to NYC. A lot of people were lost from the wealthy commuter suburbs of northern NJ. If Charlie liked Bush at one time, he would not like this boneheaded and dangerous move in not funding NYC.
