country divided by compassionate or un compassionate
That's why so many vote against their own interests. There are people that enjoy other's misery in some sick way I can't really comprehend. They seem to enjoy other's misfortunes even when there is no personal gain. When I listen to my republican SIL's talk about Idol - it isn't the talent they talk about most it's the tearing down of those that don't do well.

1. I also feel they enjoy the misery of others. Consider Checkpoint killings
Some things I've heard from Righties or Conservaties is that...
IT was the womans fault for putting her baby in danger
They can't see the difference between what happend in Haditha and an abortion
They women knew they were pregnant and should have moved closer to the hospital
It was suicide for driving through a checkpoint...

Can you believe that shit. No compassion or empathy that is some frightening shit.

Not even considering that it may have been an emergency or maybe that the people in the car were frightened and didn't understand especially with the Haditha thing they are scared of troops.

2. Gossip and Ridicule are the preferred forms of social interaction.
Listen to what people are saying to one another (in public) the next time you go to Target. Young people in particular get their jollies disecting others.

People feel justified by the fact that they assume the worst about everything: "That's just the way it is; it can't be any different" "War is inevitable" "We can't do anything about the environment" "Shit happens". If you start with the assumption that everything is bad, your own cruelties don't matter.
