What are the Reasons for the 29% being "PERMAMENTLY FOOLED"
They seem to be of the type that "IF YA FOOL ME ONCE...I REMAIN FOOLED FOREVER"

WTF?

Some guys get paid to be a PUB but for the most part...the average Pub is not. Are they like brainwashed into a stupor?

WTH?

9. What I suspect as well. Some people will never admit they were wrong.
I went to work out of high school as a bagger at a grocery store. After a while, I was promoted to grocery manager, and the talk I was given by the store manager included this pearl of wisdom, "never admit you're wrong, never back down even if you're wrong." A good friend of mine, at the time, echoed the same sentiment not long after that.

There are people out there like that. And evidently, they comprise about 29% of the population...

22. One time I almost got into an auto wreck
with a neighbor of mine who was speeding down our short one-way street - the wrong way. He stopped just long enough to explain to me that the close call wasn't really his fault because the street wasn't really one way. A cop had explained it to him, you see, it wasn't really one-way because the sign was down at the other corner. Later on I described the incident to a coworker who's comment was. "Of course. Never admit you're wrong. IT'S THE AMERICAN WAY." Apparently a certain percentage of people in this country are raised that way - and the majority become Republicans.

won in Vietnam." When you ask them what that "victory" would mean, they'll say it means the surrender of the DRV. When you ask "how we could have 'won'," they'll say we could have invaded the DRV (North Vietnam) on the ground and\or used nuclear weapons on them. There's really no arguing with them, as they are not susceptible to rational discussion, but instead cling to irrational nationalist myths.

(However, having just written that, if I were going to use "evil" on any official in BFEE, I think I would save it for Rumsferatu and Dickhead Cheney :)

219. These are the real haters of Freedom.
People looking, acting, and talking differently is terrifying to this set. They find it obscene that anyone would differ with them and they find difference intolerable to the point where they will kill or sanction killing in the vain hope of eliminating it.

We often forget how frequently such "haters of freedom" arise from inside rather than outside. In fact, as far as threats and terrorism go, I suspect the vast majority have always come from inside the fence.

66. TRY this..My favorite article
quote......
Emotional blackmail (Demand, Resistance, Pressure Threats, Compliance and Repetition) is not used exclusively in personal relationships. It is used any time one group or person wants to force its agenda, opinion or will on another. You’ve probably witnessed it on the job and currently you can study the effects simply by turning on the news.

Each of these tactics has been used extensively by the media and the government in the United States since September 11, 2001 to push the agenda and create agreement within the US population and worldwide. Commentators like Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity are masters with this tactic and provide nightly opportunities to study it in action. Former President Bill Clinton knew well how to use emotional blackmail to his advantage. It is a persuasive tool. The purpose of emotional blackmail is to control, redirect and ultimately create a state of cognitive dissonance.

Cognitive dissonance is the state of confusion that occurs when facts become twisted into half-truths, colliding with common sense and suddenly you are convinced 2+2 = 5. Your instincts tell you something isn’t right; yet the information you are fed and exposed to counteracts your instincts causing you to doubt yourself. Some refer to this as Orwellian speak, the act of taking antonyms and presenting them as synonyms: War is Peace, Consent is Patriotism, Disagreement is Anti-American or Rights are Weaknesses. These are some of the Orwellian messages Americans are currently sifting through

76. State of cognitive dissonance
we are living through like never before in our history. Remember, news is 24/7 and it's all so contradictory by MSM. It's easier to stay the course and continue to believe what you always have then have to dissect new information. When people are presented with two ideas they will always take the one that requires less change....it's just more comfortable. The country is aging. EVERYTHING that people held as truth is in question. The change is what is difficult.
People always KNEW that gay people existed in the shadows but NOW they demand their rights!

6. Incredible Pride and Ignorance - "Conservative" DNA!
In their quiet moments they think of their flag waving and shouting down liberals back in late 2002 and early 2003. In their quiet moments now they know they were wrong but a "conservative" is much to proud to admit fault. The 30ish percent can't admit they were dumbucking wrong and duped by evil masters. They'd rather remain ignorant hoping upon hope that everything will be alright. For their own religious reasons the continued death of "ragheads" can be rationalized so they feel good about themselves. "conservatives" are the number one domestic enemy of the constitution and my hate is rational.

10. It's not that complicated...
Somebody told them that if they voted the right way:

  • that at Jesus' name every knee shall bend
  • that taxes will never go up, and services will never go
  • that corporations may get their money, but people who don't look like them never will
  • that foreigners will tremble when they see our might
  • that they'll get to 'keep their guns'
  • that The Other -- women, fags, liberals, coloreds -- will know their place

And finally and most important:

  • that all change will stop , now.

What's not to like?

32. Even with the veto...
it is conservatives who are pissed off at him for not being conservative enough. If you are assuming the the 29% disapproval numbers means that now 71% will be voting Democrat then we will be set up for another failure.

It was Bush who tried to move the left on some things, not the Republicans and they are the ones that are dissatisfied. Bush had NO support on the left so those numbers are unchanged. It is conservative support where he is taking a beating.

The same thing with the war. Conservatives are dissatisfied with how the war is being fought because they feel that it has not been escalated to the point where we can win, not because the troops won't get pulled out.

Yes, there is plenty of dissatisfaction on the Right but for reasons completely different from the Left.

93. Oh, I'm not assuming that at all
I was just wondering if he were to shift back towards a hardline stance on immigration if he could win back some of the people he's lost, or if they've got problems with him on enough other issues that he will never see their support again. Or under what conditions they would return to him.

As far as the war goes, do you really think there's widespread belief that we aren't doing well among the right wing? 'Cause all I'm seeing is the typical kool-aid drinking nonsense that the MSM wants the war to go badly so they're only reporting the bad things and not the good things. But if you don't trust the media to report what's happening, how do you get any information? I know that individual soldiers have said that things over there aren't that bad, but one soldier can only see a fraction of the overall picture. And of course the army isn't going to say things are going badly. So what do the conservatives base their information on?

The guy has absolutely no grip on the issues at all--he's clueless. His research into the issues doesn't involve anything more strenuous than listening to Limbaugh and watching Bill O'Rielly. When I try to engage him in the specifics of issues he's lost. He's astonishingly ignorant.

I was talking to him about Bush's big tax cut and how little it would mean for him and his family and his reponse was that perhaps my numbers were provided by a liberal group and were distorted. He thinks he's getting much more without having a clue as to what that number is.

In Bush he trusts.

It's maddening. It's maddening because he VOTES! He knows NOTHING about the issues really or how it affects him but he VOTES!

And there are a lot more like him.

40. check this out
A total of 14 percent of Americans have had or know someone who has had at least one Close Encounter of the "First," "Second," or "Third" kind. The largest proportion (12 percent) say they or someone else they know has seen a UFO at close quarters.

A 2002 Time-CNN poll found that 59 percent of Americans believe that the prophecies found in the book of Revelations are going to come true. Nearly one-quarter think the Bible predicted the 9/11 attacks.

A new survey on religious beliefs found half of all American adults believe in ghosts, almost a third believe in astrology and more than a quarter believe in reincarnation. Fifty-one percent of the public, including 58 percent of women, believe in ghosts, according to a Harris Poll of a cross section of 2,201 adults surveyed online between Jan. 21 and 27. Thirty-one percent of the public believe in astrology, including 36 percent of women, and 27 percent believe in reincarnation - that they were once another person.

It's the same loyalty people have for a specific sports team, regardless of how bad the team sucks...it doesn't matter how many drugs the players are on, how many players/coaches on the team have been sued for rape/harrassment/abuse, etc. Team loyalty is considered a virtue for some odd reason.

They have "stayed true" to Bush from day one. They don't want to turn their back on their "team" just because times are tough.

51. All of the above.
It's a mix of never admitting their wrong, stubborness, stupidity and narrowmindedness (why would you have a reason to change your position if you refuse to listen to anything that doesn't support it). It's also WANTING to be dictated to (read Alice Miller's "For your own good") and a healthy dose of wanna-be.

Bushbots remind me of those kids in high school that will do ANYTHING to be with the 'in' crowd. They will bully other kids if the 'in' kids tell them to. They will dress however, do whatever, as long as the 'in' kids tell them to. They fancy themselves as being 'in' simply b/c they kiss the 'in' kids' asses. They like the power and feeling of belonging (however false) that being with the 'in' crowd gives them. They think the 'in' kids are laughing with them when they are actually laughing AT them. But they don't get it, they think they're "IN".
Definition of a Bushbot.

57. a number of reasons...
Edited on Mon May-29-06 01:07 PM by Anarcho-Socialist
1. Religion - we understand how conservative evangelism finds common cause with the Bushist form of 'conservatism'. A lot has been written about this already.

2. Prestige - the conservative white working class has seen its social status decrease, as the black population has obtained increasingly greater rights (but not quite equal yet), and in some cases have benefited from social mobility, and are no longer expected to be subservient to the white working class. Homosexuals, once an invisible and totally un-tolerated minority have also benefited to some extent from social mobility and have become successful, leaving the conservative white working class behind. In times past, this underclass relied on social conservatism as a means to hold the white working class (men) high in status (over gays, ethnic minorities, immigrants) despite their poverty. In modern times this group finds it difficult to compete on level terms with anybody else and will often invent 'liberal biases' that put minorities and women at advantages ahead of him, to compensate his ego for his drop in status.

65. I think it's hard for them to admit that they were wrong.
Epiphanies along with the accompanying mea culpas are hard for right wingers. Even Bush finally admitting he shouldn't have said what he said publically didn't seems to really believe it and he tried to make it into something joking and lighthearted. It's as if all the Americans, Afghanis and Iraqis, who are dead because of his policies, don't exist in his world and he was apologizing only for saying the wrong thing.

Same thing. Not wanting to see, despite obvious signs, so as to preserve the comfortable illusion.

84. It's been said "The hardest thing in the world is to know how to do
something and watch somebody do it wrong...and say nothing." I think that right up there with that one is that nobody likes to admit they've been played for a fool. So, many people who've been scammed (or even raped) are too ashamed to report or do anything about it.

87. Cognitive Dissonance- you ignore any facts that don't agree w/your beliefs
http://www.afirstlook.com/archive/cogdiss.cfm

People avoid information that is likely to increase dissonance. Not only do we tend to select reading material and television programs that are consistent with our existing beliefs, we usually choose to be with people who are like us. By taking care to ‘‘stick with our own kind," we can maintain the relative comfort of the status quo. Like-minded people buffer us from ideas that could cause discomfort. In that sense, the process of making friends is an example of selecting our own propaganda.

for example:
So if you believe in George W. Bush -- and polls say that a significant majority of Americans do -- but don't approve of cutting pensions for long-term workers, then (1) you can turn against Bush. Or (2) you can decide that Bush is right and that corporate interests are more important than worker pensions. Or (3) you can take the easy path and simply deny that pensions are in jeopardy.

"There's a prediction you can make down the line: The more unpopular his policies, the higher his poll numbers are going to get," Cooper continued. Why? Because we are human, alas. As long as we support someone, we must incrementally increase our approval in the face of criticism. .... people either abandon Bush or their faith in him rises to a level greater than the sum of the condemnation.

…Opposition can …. harden, although not necessarily deepen, one's base of support. And remember, there's no small number of fence-sitters willing to side with a winner against all comers no matter what the party affiliation."
