This is junk science! I don't believe it, which means that it's absolutely wrong, and that nobody else should believe it either!

Sorry. I just wanted to get that off my chest.

4. 64,000
All the flying I do probably contributes.

But most of our electricity here in IL comes from nuclear power, which didn't fit this site's definition of "clean" but it probably means less CO2 is emitted.

I admit it, I have not even caught a bus since moving, (walk everywhere), We don't use gas, and our electricity bill is not high.

I do take two short flights per year.

12. 19300 is about what we used last year, should be lower this year since
we're insulating the house, getting a more efficient way to heat our northern NY home and hopefully will be driving less after June when we'll be done moving our stuff up here from our old home (where my DD and family live now).

Considering where we are, what we drive, how we heat our home (we have oan OLD oil/wood furnace) and that this "new to us" old house has crap for insulation (so far) I'm actually surpised that it's not a lot higher except we do tend to use energy as efficiently as possilble since it not only helps the environment, it also saves us money.

When I recalculated what our score will be once we've made the changes we're planning on we're down to "average" which will be very good... now if only we could afford hooking up an alt energy source to power our home... I'd dearly love to tell National Grid to go pound salt.

13. fellow NYer in an old house, our energy bills are higher this year
because propane and oil are more expensive. It would be more accurate to ask how many gallons are used, than how many dollars are spent.

15. Yes, I agree especially with the prices being more unstable...
Edited on Mon May-29-06 08:59 AM by WePurrsevere
also the price for oil/propance can vary quite a bit. States that only has one "zone" will have a closer to accurate average then one like NY that has something like 4 or 5 of them.

:hi: fellow NY old house owner.

16. Kind of faulty...
Edited on Mon May-29-06 09:10 AM by yellowjacket
What does the amount of your bill have to do with the amount of energy you're using. In my house, the only thing that uses natural gas is my hot water heater, which is around $25/month. But most of that $25 is administrative charges necessary to generate a bill. I bet we actually use around $5 worth of natural gas for showers each month. We only take one a day! Same with electric.

20. FYI: Everyone should enter 12% for renewable electricity usage
Edited on Tue May-30-06 12:27 AM by MazeRat7
I didn't know what to enter there so I did a quick google for the "percent of electricity generated from renewable resources. It turns out that 12% of our electricity comes from renewable resources. 7.5% might be a better number since that is the total amount or "marketed" renewable bought/sold in the US. Not sure which is the better number, but either way, my consumption was lowered by including realistic numbers in this category.

edit: Pointed out the 7.5% number as a lower limit. Its hard to tell from the article.

23. Already did.. I'm under the average.. whew!
I'm a light-turner-offer, I drive an efficient car, and we keep the house around 63 degrees all winter long (of course now I can't stand to be in any place that is heated to 70!). I'd like to improve, but I do my best!
