"Thousands of vacationers in the West will likely see wolves in the wild for the first time this summer, often from the road but sometimes while camping or hiking.

The federal government and state agencies that manage wolves have concise rules on what is legal in these encounters, and experts who study wolf behavior offer advice on how to handle what is likely to be an unforgettable experience.

"Wolves don't turn and run away immediately like we're used to with other animals," said Carolyn Sime, gray wolf program coordinator with the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department. "The other thing that kind of makes it unnerving is the intensity of their eyes. It's partly the color, and partly the intensity of the way they're looking at you."

1. Read "never cry wolf". Wolves hunt the sick (or famers herds). They
don't hunt man. If you see a wolf.. look long and hard at it.. they are gorgeous!!

3. I had a pet timber wolf... raised from birth...
one of the best animals I ever had. He followed my kids everywhere they went went around our yard, like a protector. Oh how I loved to hear him howl at night. It's been 3 years since he left us , my kids still miss him terribly and speak of him often. What a beautiful creature he was!

2. WTF? If wolves are de-listed they would be considered a big game animal?
I have never, ever heard of people eating wolves.

:puke:

Who on earth would want to hunt wolves as game?
I know ranchers consider them dangerous to their stock. But game?!?!?

5. I don't think you understand what they mean by "game"
People hunt "wild game" in Africa, and don't eat it!! It's a GAME to them. They take the heads for "trophies" Your reference to game is what the Native Americans believe. You only kill it for food and warmth from the skins. Unlike "deadeye dick" who think lawyers are fair game, you can bet he'd be out there shootin' up the wolves. Or maybe not, they are his brothers....wolves in sheep's clothing!!
