Very good. Somewhat hard to take. For example "we don't need a cure."

Don't want to spoil, so I will leave it at that.

1. Was it good?
The reviews have been pretty harsh.

I think people are confusing the feeling of the movie with how good it is.

What I liked were the parallels to modern problems.

5. I particularly liked the parallel to the Holocaust
Remember from the beginning of the first movie, Erik's powers began to manifest in his early teens, as he and his family were being herded in to a concentration camp in Nazi Germany. When he was gathering his mutant army and showed his camp serial number tattoo... I could actually taste the fear that what was, would be again.

That said, the acting wasn't as good at it should have been, the direction was rough in spots and there were too many people to keep track of. The biggest problem, I think, was that the plot was overambitious. There was simply too much story to tell in the 90 minutes they allotted for the film. If they had made it 2 hours, or ditched the Phoenix storyline, I think it would have worked much better.
