The Center for Responsive Politics is a non-partisan, non-profit research group based in Washington, D.C. that tracks money in politics, and its effect on elections and public policy. :wow: The Center conducts computer-based research on campaign finance issues for the news media, academics, activists, and the public at large. 1. I've browsed around on that site before.
It's a real eye-opener, isn't it? How can we possibly get representatives to truly represent us, when there is all that corporate, PACs, and individual self-interest money behind them? I've been reading "Selling Out: How Big Corporate Money Buys Elections, Rams Through Legislation, and Betrays Our Democracy" by Mark Green. He says that a hefty chunk of many of the reps days are filled with fund-raising, via phone calls, etc., even if they are not part of the near future election cycle. He said most of them hate that part of the job, but they don't feel they have any choice. Apparently over 90% of the time, the candidate with the largest war chest wins the election. That really stinks big time doesn't it? I really think it's time for some serious campaign funding reform. This just isn't working to the average American's advantage!

3. Amazing that senators didn't support Kerry on Clean Money, Clean Elections
public financing bill. He should resubmit it now in honor of Paul Wellstone who did support it with him. There were also 3 other senators who did.

But, McCain-Feingold helped stop the move for public financing. fortunately, a few states HAVE adopted the Clean Elections bill for their state elections.

5. Don't go that far - Feingold has other qualities as a senator that
have been pretty good overall. He just picks an issue here and there that he's comfortable with. Most do.

8. Gore never supported Clean Elections, either. He and Clinton sat on their
hands and offered NO help to the issue or the bill when it came up.

Has he changed his mind?

7. McCain-Feingold is the best that we can do for the time being
When we regain congress and actually have a shot at passing the Clean Elections bill I'm sure that Russ will be fully on board.

9. Wasn't the point - the point was when he HAD an opportunity to throw some
weight behind Clean Elections and stand with those who supported it, he did NOT.
