Is Randi having trouble selling commercial air time?
I am in Columbus Ohio and every time they go to commercial break they come back to over 4 minutes ( I timed it) of insipid, repetitive, time-filling canned music. Is this happening anywhere else? I refuse to listen if I have to be subjected to this canned loop music every damn commercial break. Is it because they don't have the commercials or what?

1. sounds like your station. I think AAR is selling national ads
and so you get some of those commercials but no local ones.

Sounds strange to me. She's doing GREAT in many areas. What are call letters of your AAR affiliate?

11. well, they are garnering around a 1 share. vs. 8.2 for righty radio
gosh. that 610 station is YUCK. I'm sure they had great ratings for Buckeye football. Plus they have an unGodly and gross lineup of:

Rush
Hannity
Drudge
Glen Beck

ouch. you must be living in Repub country.

may take some time for your area

2. aar is mostly on crummy little stations nobody listen to anyway
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 09:24 PM by msongs
here in so cal the nations largest media market. in our area aar is on a station that goes off the air at sunset as far as we can tell and has a broadcasting radius that is barely down the street. during the day they play bits and pieces of aar programming whenever they feel like it. we tried to listen some times but it was hardly worth the bother.

not sure it is any better in LA.

10. It's called a daytime only license :(
Because of "skip" on AM at night there are a lot of daytime stations that aren't allowed to broadcast at night. I already asked my local station abou this - they are trying to get more power autorization & nights but it's difficult to get. It's awful in the winter time when the sun sets at 5PM :( I actually listen to a station WLIB from New York (200 miles from here) at night due to the "skip" on AM radio. It'll be crazy if/when they get onto a major station.

6. They took Randi off here, so I bought XM. Better for AAR than ads.
Seriously, they preempted Randi for some guy from Colorado. Hell the only reason I listened to that silly AM station was for AAR. So when Randi went, I bought XM. I win, AAR wins, and (oh so sad) my local affiliate looses. Hey.. thats the breaks.

8. Mike Malloy explained the music, I think it was last night,
It is the way AAR is doing their commercials, they aren't aired on the internet or on satellite, only on regular radio stations (I think that was the way he explained it). He said not to worry they are able to sell commercial air time, it isn't a problem.

9. I am listening to the regular radio station.
Im I not understanding you? As for it being a problem, I will stop listening soon. Currently I know they are about 4:30 minutes long and I turn the volume down. I won't be doing that for much longer, I will simply not listen.

12. you should find out if your station is just using the straight feed
for internet broadcasts. that sucks man. go buy satellite radio or something.

16. XM
XM is well worth the money for AAR alone, but it offers so much more, too. I have it on all day in the house and was given one for the car for Christmas.

13. I don't know about your local station but
by my count they're up to 82 stations plus XM satellite. Ads or not, they must be making money somehow.

17. Streaming is now without commercials.
They just have the bumper music. If you listen to a local broadcast there would be ads over the bumper music.

18. If you get Xm what sort of contracts
do they offer? I'd prefer not to be locked into one in case AAR's powers that be decide to go to the next best thing.

I'd hate to be stuck with a 3 year contract or something

I would like to know what's happening too, because it is really annoying. BTW I just tune into my local AM station, which has a really weak signal.
