Dear agent mike,
Edited on Sat May-20-06 10:18 PM by proud2Blib
I got a new modem today. My internet connection seems faster but loading my email is still slower than other sites. I'll bet you thought I would never wonder about that. Well you thought wrong.

I also opened up ANOTHER new email account. Having no access to my email for most of last week was more than a tad inconvenient. It did put a bit of a wrinkle in organizing our Mothers Day Peace Vigil, but I did that the old fashioned way by using the telephone. I figure it will take you awhile to find this new email account and I will enjoy it working as fast as it does for everyone else on that site until you find me there.

I also spent the morning emailing all my political contacts, fellow peace activists and reporters and gave them all my work email to use in case of emergency. I figure you can't shut down that email without a flurry of court orders or some such hassle that I am really not worth.

I have turned off my home phone. An added benefit to that is the money I am saving. Besides, every time I answered it lately it was either a hang up or a wrong number. So no great loss or inconvenience there.

I got a new ATM card too. Funny, I had that card for years and never had one problem with it. I also rarely used it since it is for my savings account and I do try to be a good girl and leave that account alone. But right before I went to Crawford for Easter, I transferred a bunch of money into that account and used that card while I was in Texas. Then I used it in New York two weeks later when I was there for the UPJ rally. Imagine my surprise when all of a sudden it stopped working right after I got back from New York two weeks ago.

I was on the radio today! Did you hear me? Oh I know, that is most likely a dumb question. I hope you paid attention to the part where we talked about the loss of constitutional rights. The host of the show told me she wants me back! So free up your Saturday afternoons. I may even say hi to you at some point.

You see, agent mike, you don't scare me. My dad was a history teacher for 40 years and I was the only kid in my kindergarten class who not only had memorized the preamble to the constitution but could also explain it and the Bill of Rights (well, as well as a 5 year old could explain it). Point is, I could have told you when I was 5 that spying on American citizens who are political activists is WRONG.

I think about my dad a lot these days. He was a proud Democrat. He was very active politically and had all of his kids knocking on doors for JFK in 1960. But Dad was somewhat conservative. He called me his loony leftist daughter. He never did understand the need for a feminist movement, as he always treated women as equals. He never agreed with me about abortion but he thought the Vietnam war was wrong. When he realized that he was most likely on one of Nixon's enemies lists, he was furious. He also told me in 1967 that I had better hope the USA NEVER got involved militarily in the middle east, that we would never be able to get out once we got in. He disagreed with Carter getting involved even though it was to negotiate a treaty. And he was livid when bush sr went to war with Iraq in 1991.

My dad was the smartest man I have ever known and he didn't raise no fool. I know he would be proud of me today. I think of him every time I stand with my fellow peace activists, holding signs to protest this despicable war. I know he would worry about me and I doubt I would be able to tell him about my phone and email and bank card problems, as I would not want to worry him. But I know for a fact that if he were alive today, he would most likely be right there next to me, protesting this war and demanding the impeachment of this monster of a president.

So I am not afraid of you or of my government. Bring it on. Oh, and I will be back at the park tomorrow at 4:00 and again on Tuesday at 5:00. (I am thinking of making a new sign that says "HI AGENT MIKE!") I also have a meeting on Monday night with those subversive Quakers. We are going to plan our rally for the 28th. That should be a nice day for you, as we expect a good turnout and it will be easier for you to blend into the crowd.

:hi:

Peace!!

edit - spelled Nixon wrong! LOL

17. I think I'm being watched too...
Every page access I've tried to make all day has been DOG slow (about 1-2 minutes if it doesn't time out. I've tried restarting my DSL modem and router multiple times to no avail. Called up AT&T (yes the evil ones that just took over SBC), and don't have time to go over it with them now, but got new DNS servers to access.

I noted my router was getting pegged with hits. I also noticed that when I turned off my DSL modem, when turning my browser to point to my router web address, which SHOULD work offline from the internet, it was complaining with the menu on the outside that it couldn't access the internet in effect. I was going "What?". Rebooting my firewall while it was offline got it to work semi-normally again, but it was still acting flakey. I'm thinking it's time for a new router or at least redownload the current firmware. Have to take off shortly now, but I will be goving over my set up next morning and making sure that there isn't some gateway/proxy that's hijacking my traffic in and out of my machine. If there is, and it's AT&T, I'm going to start looking for a new provider. I will be SO pissed if I discover this is NSA or someone like that jamming into my machine!

And no, I don't think I"m doing anything illegal either, unless political activity that is within the law is viewed as illegal nowadays!

Mostly though it's the politcal stuff. I don't have my regular email set up on it. After a few hours, it started havng the same trouble. I couldn't get web pages to open. But the Winamp kept playing Nate's program. Go figure. I rebooted and then pages would open. Whatever it is, it is.

the hands of this country's version of the secret police. You don't need to be doing anything wrong, just BE here. They also have access to your email communications and all this was done in secret. They are more angry at the patriotic whistleblower who told his fellow countrymen that their government was spying on them, than they are at whoever outed an undercover agent and her entire operation. That should tell us something, imo.

Why, if there was no wrongdoing on the part of the government, are they so angry that their nasty little secret has been discovered, and what kind of government spies on its own people?

Sadly now, most people I know assume they can no longer have a private conversation with their friends and family, and there is an atmosphere everywhere, of total mistrust of this government.

Corporations, at least the telecoms, have collaborated against the American people and their own paying customers, to fascilitate this illegal spy program.

What's ironic is that if it's true that this technology is as good as we are told, why have they not caught Osama Bin Laden? Why was it not trained on Tora Bora? Why are they spying on Americans rather than on terrorists?

I'm wondering why there seems to be no interest in finding the man they told us was responsible for 9/11, the reason they trot out for all their illegal activities. And, I am not the only one!

Meantime, :hi: Agent Mike, or whoever you are.

13. Interesting post.
I recall that you were having trouble with your e-mail on Mother's Day weekend. I didn't know about the ATM card-very interesting (and disturbing).

I have been having trouble with my internet connection for the past month. It goes down for days at a time, usually on the weekends. The cable guy came out on Thursday, said it was because we had a tv connected to the same system. I jokingly said that I was glad it was our fault and not the NSA. I didn't know whether he would get it, but he said, "You never know with this government-they want complete control." It seems more and more people are willing to say it out loud.

Anyway, the tv is apparently not the problem. I had no internet today until about an hour ago. When I talked to the cable company, they said I could pick up a new modem on Monday and try that.

But as time goes by, I have more and more reason to suspect strange coincidences. One thing I didn't tell agent mike in my letter is that several others in my peace group and friends from Camp Casey are also having weird problems. (But he probably knows that:) )

So your internet problems are probably my fault. If you weren't a friend of mine, you would have NO problemo. LOL

You know that magnetic stripe on the back of your ATM card? That's a strip of 8-track cassette tape. If you've really had the same card for years, you've beaten the odds so far. All kinds of things can go wrong with it.

The new card-theft identifier programs work wonders as well, picking out suspicious behaviors and shutting down (for your protection) your ATM card. Do you go to New York often? If not, anything spent there might have sent up a red flag, since New York City leads the world in the number of financial crimes.

(Las Vegas is number two, followed by Los Angeles at number three. The rest I forget right now)

I live in Las Vegas, number 2, and my ATM card has been shut down twice in the last year. The first time, someone not only had my card's electronic sig, but my PIN as well, and attempted to buy $1,800 worth of stuff at a Strip casino mall. Flag went up, card was cancelled. When my wallet was stolen in January, the thieves tried to buy $300 worth of shoes from a flea market shoe store. The computer realized that I had never before shopped at a flea market, at a show store, or spent three hundred dollars on anything other than rent or electronics. Immediately after, my card was suspended and I signed a form to get my money back.

Your post is dead on, overall, though, except instead of Quakers I hang out with Unitarian Univeralists. Agent Mike (or Chad, or Billy, or whatever) can go fuck himself. I know that there's a computer reading this post right now, as well as the phone calls I make and which bills I pay on time. Hopefully, some of the Agent Mikes in the world will wake up.

I'll be knocking on doors tomrrow morning and working a phone bank in the afternoon for my anti-war gubernatorial candidate, Agent Mike, if you'd care to come and join me.

18. Oh I guess I should have thought of that with my ATM card
and thanks for the good info on that.

But coupled with everything else, count me as suspicious.

Another interesting thing is that last night was my high school reunion. My dad was a teacher at the same school I went to so when I go to events there, I end up having some nice conversations about him. He was much loved and was there for 25 years. Well as soon as I got there, I saw my Science teacher and we were having a pleasant conversation when a man walked up and my Science teacher introduced him to me. The man said he had been in my dad's History class and had learned most of what he knows about American History from him. I asked the man what he did for a living and he said he had just retired from the military where he was in the NSA. Man was I ever ready to put my tin foil hat on! LOL

Anyway, the Science teacher then brought up this spying issue and both men agreed that it was really no big deal and ordinary law-abiding citizens had nothing to worry about. Out of respect for my dad, I listened and didn't jump on them as I so desperately wanted to. But right before I walked away, I told the NSA guy that my dad's favorite subtopic in US History was the constitution and he said yes, he remembered that he talked about that a lot in class. Then I said "Well I am sure you realize my dad would be very concerned about the bush administration's attacks on our constitutional rights." And I walked away.

Thanks for the K & R!

32. sounds like a setup...
Did you get the guys name? You should go back to school records and see if he really was a student. And just because the name exists, doesn't mean that's the guy you met... i don't know how far you're willing to push it, but if you were to attempt to go look up that "old student", would the jig be up? (Is it jig or gig?)

Were i you i would do a risk assessment of my daily patterns... determine at what points during the day that i am vulnerable. Always make sure someone knows where you are going and don't trust e-mail to convey that message... and keep a record of all strange occurrences, regardless of how innocuous they seem. Posting here would be a good way to do this as other activists may be able to compare notes.

Not trying to be a downer, just concerned for your (and our) safety...

Peace and goodwill to you!

31. Hi Mikey!
Like you p2b, I have changed my habits a bit.

I've changed my e-mail sig line:

NOTICE: Due to Presidential Executive Orders, Agent Mike (a.k.a. USAF General Michael Hayden) of the National Security Agency may have read this email without warning, warrant, or notice. He can do this without any judicial or legislative oversight. You have no recourse nor protection save to call for the impeachment of the current President.

Whenever possible, I try to mention Michael Hayden, NSA, and 4th Amendment rights in phone conversations. (A little side note on telephones - if you don't know how the telephone system works, read this.)

I canceled my Verizon cell phone making a point to the sales rep that I value my 4th Amendment rights.

Whenever possible as I exit a building, I flip the bird to retired Air Force Lt. Gen. James Clapper.

I make it a point to walk with my Veterans For Peace peace brothers and sisters whenever possible. The in-your-face approach is my preference.

I am unwilling to let these fascists take away my liberty without a word or gesture. Fuck 'em all in the piehole.

They were 'nice' enough to provide service w/o a contract. All we need is some court somewhere to decide that Verizon has violated their privacy policy & the floodgates should open.

You can bet Verizon will spend all the lawyer bucks they can to prevent this from happening.

Think I'll look into non-destructive letters or markers.

Tnx!

70. Heh - when I drive past the damned surveillance cameras on the interstate,
I often flip the bird - first to Ashcroft, now to Gonzales.

33. I wonder if he's ever attended any DU meetings in person?
Being paranoid as hell, they probably do infiltrate DU meetings in the physical flesh undercover. They send fake protesters into the streets all the time.

41. I am not worried about our DU group
We are close friends and it would be hard to infiltrate one of our meetups. But we do meet in public and I wouldn't put it past agent mike from sitting at a nearby table and trying to eavesdrop on us. But we usually just laugh and say mean things about el pretzeldente. It would have to be hard for agent mike to hear our converstions. Poor baby.

34. Off topic (sorry agent mike - it's NOT all about you)
but it sounds like your dad was a helluva guy. Yesterday was my dad's birthday. He's been gone 25 years and I still miss him. But, like you and your dad, I still live my life and raise my children to make him proud, and, like your dad, I'm sure he is.
Peace.

42. Ah isn't it great having such wonderful dads?
I had such a Beaver Cleaver childhood. I was so very very lucky. If my kids respect me 10% as much as I respect my dad, I will be happy.

Those emails that you have been tracking from my ID? I send them to another of my email accounts on a different computer. No doubt, you are tracking them too!

if we promised to faithfully keep Agent Mike updated on our daily lives he could, in return, promise not to slow down the internet and email?

46. I caught Agent Mike taking pictures of my car.
I parked next to a friend who had Navy stickers and kerry stickers on her car when we went to hear Hilary Clinton in late 2003. We stayed after the event to do some volunteer work. As we walked into the parking lot, there were four people taking pictures and vidioe of our cars and then of us as we walked over. I smiled pretty and waved. My friend was a bit alarmed. Agent Mike and his pals got into their unmarked van and drove away.

Mr kt and I always be sure to wave at protests when they put cameras in our face or snap our photograph.

Whenever anyone driving by gets nasty, he just lifts up his binoculars and looks straight at them.

49. Dear Agent Mike
Today will be one of my more exciting days. Thought I'd bring you up to speed so you won't slow my DSL service. Got up around 6, had some coffee and breakfast, checked into DU, did the dishes and housewark, took a shower, walked in the mall, went to Lowe's and the fruit stand, had lunch, checked into DU, watched last night's Jon Stewart and Colbert Report (sorry), watered the birds and plants, had dinner, listened to the news (I'm still not too happy with W - forgive me), read a book, watched TV and fell asleep. I'll try to behave tomorrow.

56. I'm raising a daughter who seems to be very much in your likeness.
She was in an advanced writing class four years ago. She had to write a controversial paper. She choose not going to war and citing the economical realities of not be able to pay for it. You guessed it. We have been audited every year since. Freedom ain't cheep.

60. What if Agent Mike is the NSA whistleblower? Let's
continue to keep him informed about what the fascists are doing to our beloved country.

Be a patriot, and protect our Constitution and people, Agent Mike.

Blow that whistle, and turn in your fascist superiors for their traitorous actions against the US.
:patriot:

Now that AT&T runs my ISP all I get is spam in my email box. It is a form of torture and something you should investigate the NSA about. Get to work, my tax dollars are angry.

67. I too wonder if I'm being 'agent miked';
I have 2 different ways that I have baited him and his peers. One way is that I send emails back and forth between my various email accounts containing words such as terrorist, war, dirty bomb, nuclear, Osama, etc... The other way is that using Google's alerts with the phrase 'Death of george w bush'. Every day I get all the items that have those words in them. Lol, there sure are a LOT of them. Let me know if anybody has any other suggestions I might try.

In the meantime, agent mike can suck my big 'george'.
