Immediately after reading expatriot's thread about being assaulted for his protest, I thought of Stephen Colbert, and how dramatically different this country has become under Bush. Speaking up ten years ago would never have caused a single blink from any of us. Their message is similar-run Bush out of town on a rail. Stephen Colbert is still a major headliner over a week later simply for opening his mouth and public opinion is extremely divided. Now Edward Snook, a gentle, artistic and brave soul is ASSAULTED PHYSICALLY BY FREAKS just for carrying a sign. This is what makes me tear my hair out.
Yet, he stood his ground. He made me think about how much courage I would have to have when faced with ASSAULT by a MOB. Walking or standing motionless, expecting my right to free speech, carrying a sign and harming NOBODY. Ten years ago, Free Speech was a fact, not an assumption. And the bold calmness it took for these two men to express themselves and stand up makes me want to change; it really inspires me. I applaud and thank you, expatriot. Thank you.
